Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, has been making the media rounds this week attacking conservative author Ann Coulter for 'hate speech.' However, just two months ago Edwards launched an unprovoked attacked on her private citizen neighbor in an interview with the Associated Press.
Edwards initiated her assault on Coulter with a phoned in confrontation with Coulter on MSNBC's Hardball show on Tuesday.
Edwards was upset that Coulter has criticized her husband and other Democratic presidential candidates for using the deaths of their siblings and children to score political points, as well as Coulter's well publicized but mischaracterized remarks about her husband's manliness.
Edwards, who has portrayed herself as a mother trying to elevate political discourse for the benefit of "the children," trashed her neighbor as a gun-toting "rabid, rabid Republican" who lives on a "slummy" property.
Edwards she hadn't met her neighbor and that she wouldn't want her children around him because he "when he doesn't like somebody, the first thing he does is pull a gun out."
The neighbor, Monty Johnson, a 55 year old grandfather, is not a public figure and is not accused of threatening the Edwards family. The AP article does not explain what prompted Edwards to attack him in the media.
Johnson asked Edwards to apologize for her attack on him. There is no record that she did so.
Edwards opened her confronation with Coulter by claiming she was a polite Southerner:
I'm calling you … in the south when we -- when someone does something that displeases us, we wanna ask them politely to stop doing it.
Edwards never spoke to her private citizen neighbor before she lambasted him in the national press. Yet she dares climb on a pedestal to attack Ann Coulter.
Elizabeth Edwards, you are a bully and a hypocrite. As they say in the South, bless your heart.

If that business about the gun is a lie, he has significant grounds for a slander/libel cause of action.
Mrs. Edwards has Cancer. Mrs Edwards can do no wrong.

Before she opened her yap, she was a brilliant attorney. After she opened it we see she is a horse’s ass snob. Slummy, indeed.

Elizabeth Edwards is a bigger sleaze than her husband or Terry Kerry.
And her husband is a slick "slip-and-fall" lawyer and they live in a big house and they are Rats! Mr. Citizen who lives next door means nothing to them.

I certainly hope Ann reads this fine post. She will surely be asked about the Edwards issue in coming weeks and this makes for devestating return fire.
This is the kind of thing that Coulter discussed in one of her books. The Libs take someone who is a pathetic victim and sends them out to attack a conservative. Then if the conservative fights back, they are viewed as insensitive and mean spirited. The tactic doesn’t work with Ann because everyone knows she is insensitive and mean spirited, (if only more conservatives were). What’s pathetic here is John Edwards is hiding behind his wife’s skirts. It would be interesting to know how this call came about and whether it was something that was coordinated by the campaign.
