CN is Canada's freight line as opposed to Via Rail Canada, which is Canada's passenger line equivalent to Amtrak.

Slight corection:

CN (Canadian National) is one of Canada's two main freight railroads.

Canadian Pacific is the other.

VIA, like Amtrak, is the country's passenger train operator. They own very little physical "railroad". They operate over the various lines of CP and CN for the most part.
