Subway customer lauded as hero for gunning down robbers in Plantation

Some are calling a former U.S. Marine a hero for shooting two men — killing one — during the botched robbery of a sandwich shop in Plantation. But the men's friends and family want to know how he could gun them down and not be charged.

John Lovell had just finished dinner at about 11: 15 p.m. Wednesday when, Plantation police say, two men armed with guns rushed inside a Subway shop and demanded cash. After robbing the store, the men turned to Lovell. They wanted his money, police said

But like his attackers, Lovell was armed.

The retired military man opened fire, shooting dead Donicio Arrindell, 22, of North Lauderdale, and critically injuring Fredrick Gadson, 21, of Fort Lauderdale.

Lovell, 71, of Plantation, has a valid concealed weapons permit and is not expected to be charged in the shooting, said police spokesman Detective Robert Rettig. Gadson, however, faces multiple felony charges that could include murder, he said. Under Florida law, anyone who commits a felony such as armed robbery resulting in a death can be held accountable for the capital offense.

As you can guess the liberals down here are screeching and screaming about what a villian this guy is. But if the to robbers had killed him and the Subway employees they would not say a word.

Thank you Jeb Bush and the Florida House and Senate for the Stand You Ground law.

Be careful - with the present fool as Gov., he will want ex-cons to have the carry a concealed weapon - after all, they will paid their debt to society.

Darn right he’s not going to get charged with anything. Heck, he should be given an award.

Because he had a valid permit and they were committing armed robbery. I don't see how this is a hard question to answer. I guess you have to work for a Florida newspaper or something.

Do you think every ex-con should not be allowed to own a weapon?

What if he was busted for a non-violent crime?

The only thing worse than 21 year olds robbing people is when they do it to senior citizens who generally can’t defend themselves. With a little bit of luck the other perp will die too.

Unreal. I read the whole bloody article and could nit believe the three dopes who co-authored it gave Gadson’s family any “ink”.

Quote:
But Gadson’s grandmother, Rosa Jones, said: “He ain’t no hero. He is a murderer and God will serve justice.”

No Mrs. Jones, your grandson was an armed thug holding up a sandwich shop and crossed paths with someone who would not be intimidated or made a victim. Period. You don’t like that, tough. Mr. Lovell wasn’t and isn’t guilty of anything.

Only one “former Marine” and he’s in Washington DC.

This Florida guy should get together with the Michigan guy who punched out the pick pocket... if his wife allows him to.

...Lovell, a retired Pan-Am and Delta Airline pilot, (blah blah) ... police had arrested him for having a loaded .9 mm and three extra clips behind the driver's seat

Argh!!!!!!... "Clips".

As soon as a I read that I knew and yep, I was right .... By Akilah Johnson, etc etc.

I swear, it must be a Reporter Union rule. Any gun story gets written by a ditz 'reporterette' who doesn't know which end of a gun the bullet comes out of.

And naturally they had the obligatory Gramma canard of the dead perp - He was a good boy, was turning his life around, had a job interview 'tomorrow' and didn't even own a gun -- blah, blah, blah, BULL!

Mr. Lovell defended himself in a place where he had a right to be and under Florida's Castle Doctrine, he had no duty to retreat. His life was threatened and under the circumstances he did the only thing he could do. I'm very proud of him. He saved not only his own life but that of patrons in the restaurant.

People like Gadson’s grandmother are a dime a dozen around these parts.

There is an entire permanent sub-class in South Florida which does nothing but complain about how white people keep them down, how white people purposefully prevent them from taking advantage of any opportunity, how white people prevent any type of development from entering their neighborhoods, ad nauseum.

Another report I read said that the punks had ordered the shooter into some kind of closet or back room just before he drew his weapon.Something like that could *absolutely* cause a “reasonable person” to be in fear for his/her life....and therein lies the justification (moral and legal) for the use of deadly force.

But Gadson's grandmother, Rosa Jones, said: "He ain't no hero. He is a murderer and God will serve justice." She and her husband, Ivory Jones, pastor of a Fort Lauderdale church, sat on their front porch in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday wondering how a man could shoot two people and not go to jail.

A pastor who can't tell the difference between murder and self-defense.

If he should manage to live, he can be charged for felony murder of his accomplice.

Felony Murder is a capital crime in Florida, exposing him to the death penalty.

He saved not only his own life but that of patrons in the restaurant.

And the lives of the people these thugs would have killed in subsequent armed robberies.

Armed robberies, if successful, are like Frito-Lay chips for criminals: they can't commit just one.

While he's in the hospital he can get very used to having needles inserted.
