Here in my home state (Florida) it is not illegal to transport a weapon in your automobile as long as it complies with the requirements. How else could you get to the firing range?

It makes sense if your child’s career was at stake. You throw some money at her and she goes away. And the last thing you want is for her to go back to court.

In another minute she’ll claim he was “an honor student” and present a junior high graduation picture..

In many areas, especially urban, that, in fact is the mentality. Advocates of this thinking advance their “careers”. A certain, gaseous, helmet haired cleric comes to mind..

OMG - are you saying the families of the three lacrosse players would pay her to drop the charges?

No way. The best thing that has happened has been the public hearings about this case. The news coming out, the depositions, and the cross-examinations, have exposed corruption and lying on the part of the false accuser, the DA, the police and the DNA lab.

Nah, they just pay her to shut up. The DA is screwed if she suddenly goes cold.

Also, she can’t charge them again.

The lacrosse players were declared innocent by the AG. He also declared that Crystal was a liar and crazy.

Lots of liars and crazy people get charged for crimes they commit. Why not Crystal Mangum?

Sorry to go off about Mangum on a thread about a brave Marine...but

The DA is screwed if she goes cold? Doesn’t make sense. The DA is already screwed. The hearings have exposed all his lies.

Dragging Crystal into court would further expose all her lies and more importantly all the corruption in Durham.

It’s the corrupt power in Durham that is afraid of exposure, not the players’ families. IMO

She’s not going to charge them again. But if she is so guilty, why don’t they press charges? Because they know she will have to talk to protect herself.

“The People” were willing to back her as long as she was willing to be backed, truth be damned. Her guilt as irrelevant. NiFong was also protected by “The People”. She was the victim of “power”. But suddenly, she went quiet which hung Nifong out to dry. She’s a prostitute. She sells herself for money. That’s how Nifong (and Duke) got screwed. They backed a prostitute and money changes everything. The parents contacted her and offered to pay her for her pain and suffering.

This the standard sound bite after a Florida punk gets caught or killed in the commission of a major crime: “It’s such a shame. He was trying so hard to turn his life around.”

Boo Hoo. Well, he can quit trying now. Problem solved.

My dad was a 3 war Marine, my daughter's a cop. Pretty easy to ffigure out my attitude on this kind of stuff.

I have eaten at this Subway many times...and graduated high school in Plantation...many years ago. I grew up in this area and Tancredo is right to say it has become a third world country in Broward and Dade Counties.

One of the best moves I ever made was to get the hell out of South Florida and go elsewhere...and I am a native Floridian.

Grandma also neglected to mention that her pride and joy played basketball well enough that he would have been in the NBA someday, if only the racist cracker hadn't shot him.

I suppose she won't forget to tell it to the civil jury when they sue the old boy for "wrongful death."

On a very serious note, it's WAY past time the RKBA movement got to work removing the "SELF" from laws permitting shooting in self-defense. Mr. Lovell shouldn't have had to wait until the perps turned on him to legally shoot them. He should have been perfectly free to shoot them while they were focusing on the cashier, without fear of prosecution.

I'm not a lawyer, or an expert on these matters, but I feel confident that, as a rule, laws permitting deadly force in self-defense allow you to use that force in defense of an innocent third party. I know that the California laws do.

Yes. I read about J. C. Adams here on Free Republic back when it happened. You learn a lot here on FR. And you exchange ideas with some highly intelligent and very well informed people! Freepers are smart. ~S

“I’m conflicted on that. I agree that piling on to the family at this point is cruel - unless they keep making stupid (ok, naive to give them the benefit) statements like the one they made.”

I can’t think of very many circumstances where overwhelming a private citizen you have never met with phonecalls about statements you don’t like is warranted. We certainly wouldn’t like it much if DU folk were doing that to conservatives who speak out in the paper.

It still doesn’t make sense. She still claims today that she was gang raped. Nobody paid her off. If they did, it didn’t work!

The Attorney General said she was lying. He further said he wouldn’t charge her for all the false accusations because she was crazy. That makes no sense either.

The best thing that has happened in this case has been the exposure of the corruption in Durham. Crystal would probably expose much more dry rot - maybe that’s why they don’t charge her.
