Russian [Putin henchman] tried fake $100 bill

PORTSMOUTH — A Russian man attempted to pass off a phony $100 bill at the New Hampshire State Liquor store shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the store manager, who said a cashier discovered the bill was bogus.

No arrest was made, according to police, but the incident was the talk of the store because Russians are known to be staying in the city ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's scheduled visit with President Bush in Kennebunkport, Maine, on Sunday.

Liquor store manager Mike Smith said the man, accompanied by four other Russian men, attempted to purchase two bottles of Scotch whiskey with the bum $100. The cashier used a special pen to mark the bill to test its authenticity.

"It turned a color that it's not supposed to, and when he saw that, he grabbed the bill back and left," said Smith.

Portsmouth police received a call from the liquor store that the man and his friends were on foot, headed to the nearby Holiday Inn. Police responded to the scene. A dispatch message on the police scanner said diplomatic immunity might be involved.

But Police Lt. Dante Puopolo said that diplomatic immunity was not invoked because police did not make any arrests. "We have no evidence of any kind," he said. "We don't have the $100 bill."

However, he said there are currently Russians staying in town who are entitled to diplomatic immunity, he said. "Their version of the secret service are staying here in Portsmouth," he said. Putin will arrive at the Pease Air National Guard Base on Sunday en route to his summit with Bush.

Approximately a dozen Russian men were congregated in front of the Holiday Inn shortly after the incident Thursday night. One said he spoke no English but indicated he was there in connection with the Putin visit. The men went into the Holiday Inn shortly afterward.

In addition to counterfeit detection pens, it might be useful for this town to get some Geiger counters.

Putin is sending Russian agents into American liquor stores with fake $100 bills? Why? Is this really going to undermine our financial system? Might it be that these guys are journalists, and about as honest as most journalists here? Counterfeiting money and counterfeiting news are equally lucrative.

They may have some left over.

When Germany surrendered in WWII, nuclear material from a U-Boat that was originally headed for Japan was unloaded at Portsmouth.

And, of course, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard did build nuclear powered subs at one time, the USS Thresher being the most unfortunate.

And, Seabrook Station, the last nuclear power plant commissioned in the US is right down the road.

I don't know, but they have their own version of Baghdad Bob on that issue:

Russian Ambassador to South Korea Gleb Ivashentsov urged the United States on Tuesday to present evidence North Korea is counterfeiting U.S. currency, Yonhap News Agency reported.

"The side that raises the suspicions should present evidence," Ivashentsov was quoted by Yonhap as telling a group of senior South Korean journalists.

"So, the U.S. should find evidence to convict (North Korea of counterfeiting)," he said.

The Russian envoy said his country has not received any concrete evidence on North Korea's alleged counterfeiting.

"There is rumor-level talk on the issue," he reportedly said.

He also said foreign countries should not interfere with North Korea's internal affairs, and added North Korea would fire back if pushed forcefully, Yonhap said.

Oh my gosh...another denial from that area (ref: Baghdad Bob):

"Counterfeit dollars? Well, if you are going to listen to Georgians, soon you will say that we have a nuclear bomb here," Mikhail Mindzayev, interior minister in the separatist government, said in a telephone interview. Mindzayev asserted that "we do not have any counterfeit dollars here, and we do not have any criminals."

Washington Post

Too funny.

Putin Says Soviet History Less Bleak than U.S. History

June 28, 2007

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the history of the Soviet Union has had fewer black pages than the US. “Sure, we had purges, gulags, liquidation of the Kulaks, enforced starvation in the Ukraine, the pact with Hitler that started World War II, the Katyn Forest massacre, the attempt to assassinate the pope, the repression of Eastern Europe, suppression of freedom and impoverishment of the Russian people, the bankrolling of criminal lunatics like Mao, Pol Pot and Castro, and aid to terrorists, among other things” Putin admitted while pausing for breath. “But these offenses pale in comparison to those committed by America over this same time period.”

The list of worse offenses cited by Putin was headed by what he called “the American assault on good taste.” “The Americans have saturated the media with trash,” Putin complained. “The news cycle is polluted with repeated stories about morons like Paris Hilton and Tom Cruise. Theaters are infested with idiotic and pornographic films. Rap has dragged music to the depths of depravity. Communism may have taken millions of people’s lives, but American culture is taking billions of people’s souls. I ask you, which is the greater crime?”

It is not illegal for diplomats to pass counterfeit currency. Diplomatic Immunity, you know. They have even MURDERED some people, and just been sent back to their home countries.

Doubtful unless it’s an older version. The NK superbills are supposedly pretty hard to detect. Don’t imagine the pen trick would do it.

Putin is a lunatic if he places Tom Cruise, Paris Hilton, or even the sleaziest Hollywood producer and mogul on a level of moral comparability with Joseph Stalin and other Soviet mass murderers.

Please! Would someone take the bong out of Putin’s hands, now!

The lil commie is attempting to compare the destroying or torturing of some 100,000,000 people with what rap music does to the souls of those listening to it.

Hopefully, he is high. If not, then he is just the usual lying commie.
