It is my opinion that America has faced five truly defining periods in our history:

1. The Revolution and struggle to form a Constitutional Republic after we secured our independence.
2. The battle over slavery and the near destruction of our Republic during the Civil War.
3. The battle against totalitarianism in World War II.
4. The battle against communism during the Cold War.
5. The two-front war we are in now against Islamofascism and the American left.

I have two teen-aged boys. Since they have been able to read, the Fourth of July started with us reading the Declaration of Indepence out loud. Each year, the questions afterwards get more interesting. Of course, the discussion period doesn't last too long because then they get to go shoot off fireworks - as many as they can amass with their savings.

Now, we are moving on to the Constitution.

You should try the Federalist Papers sometime, you could spend a lifetime on those (as you could with the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution).

You are correct, sir. I do. But I figure the biggies are the D of I and the Constitution. Many conversations I have with them refer back to the Federalist Papers. Working slowly, but surely.

Nice article.

Too bad it ignores how Lincoln destroyed the voluntary compact among the 13 colonies, and turned the "United States" into big counties under the Federal heel.

"Forever" lasted until April 9, 1865.

The problem is that a huge percent of the population DOESN'T CARE and won't until it's too late. And then there is a portion of the population that actually DESIRES the defeat of Freedom.

I think that it might behoove our politicians to look at this portion of the Declaration of Independence:

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

30 plus years ago the Gullibility of the American People made it easy for those who were against LIBERTY & JUSTICE for all to get our Congress to cut off all funding for the then Free South
Vietnamese to fight for their own Freedom with.

I am confident that Israel and/or the US will take out Iran’s nuclear capability and that we will defeat Islamofascism.

I am terrified of the effect the duplicity of the left can have due to the huge portion of the population that is so gullible.
