During the month of June, the number of people identifying themselves as Republicans increased and the number of Democrats was little changed. Thats the first time in 2007 that the number of Republicans has increased. (see history). The gap between the parties the smallest it has been since last July.
Its interesting to note that the number of Republicans increased during the same month that the Presidents Job Approval fell to another all-time low.
A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of 15,000 adults in June found that just 32.0% now say theyre Republicans. Thats up more than a full percentage point from a month ago and is within a tenth-of-a-point of the GOPs best showing in ten months.

How Eisenhower solved illegal border crossings from MexicoI Like Ike.
The Fiscal Cost of Low-Skill Immigrants to the U.S. Taxpayer
"Reform" must conform to the following principles:
- Anyone who enters this country illegally must be forever barred from legal residency, let alone citizenship.
- The right to obtain legal residency in the US must be fairly rationed among all the world's nations, and must not favor those who happen to have the geographic advantage of having their native country located near the US. Residency must be granted based on a variety of factors, with self-sufficiency, useful talents and/or knowledge, and other economic benefits to the US taking precedence over other considerations. Race (as opposed to nationality) should NOT be one of the factors considered, in any way at all.
- Taxpayers must not be responsibile for paying the bills of immigrants they cannot afford to pay themselves. The rate of new immigrants must be controlled so as to not overwhelm the capacity of our infrastructure to absorb the increased population pressures.
- Those born to parents neither of whom are US citizens must not automatically become US citizens.
- English must be mastered before citizenship is granted. Legal residency should require either mastery of English, or yearly enrollment in a semester-long course in English as a second language.
- And last, but not least: No reform is permissible until we prove we can a) remove the illegals who are here, and b) prevent new illegals from arriving.

Uh . . .think there might be a lesson here?
The GOP would be wise to pay lots of attention to middle class America. Lots.
To: bnelson44
I find that hard to believe, as I almost ceased identifying myself as a Republican over the amnesty bill.

Pubbies CAN WIN, they just need to have some spinal transplants and some heat applied to their backsides to get their attention often enough to wake them up out of their lobbying induced stupors.

“I am a member of the party of Jim DeMint!!!”
Jeff Sessions stood tall as well, Republicans can solve the illegal alien problem, it starts with making serious efforts to secure the border, we don’t “hate hispanics” we do however value law and order and standards the amnesty bill was an attempt to change standards for political expediency and that just won’t fly at all.
One of the biggest problems GWB had was no one believed him when he said he would secure the border, and no one seriously believed that the “new” laws would be enforced, if the 2006 Hunter law wasn’t enforced and still isn’t then why trust them now?

That is right. ME TOO. Jim DeMint, Jeff Sessions, John Cornyn, Duncan Hunter, David Vitter are the ones attracting people to the party—not our RINO in chief.

Someone send this study to Mel’s office. Along with a request to step down as Chief Poobah of the RNC.

The immigration debate appears to have helped the Republican Party while hurting the President and other supporters of the comprehensive reform legislation. Prior to the debate, 47% of voters trusted Democrats more on the immigration issue. Following the failure of the Senate bill, just 39% trust the Democrats more on the issue. In fact, among unaffiliated voters, Republicans are now trusted more than the Democrats on immigration. The only other issue where the GOP can make that claim is national security.Securing the borders and gaining lawful control over immigration is a winner politically for the Republicans, if they take advantage of it.
To do so, Republicans must remove Mel Martinez and other open-borders supporters or La Raza-panderers from the RNC and other positions where they are in control of selecting and funding candidates in this election cycle. And given Bush's unpopularity among Republicans, running against Bush on this issue won't harm any of the candidates, in my view.
I think this can be done if both the Republican presidential candidates and grass roots Republicans demand it. Obviously McCain will be opposed, but the viability of his candidacy is declining and will end at some point.
For the Democrats, controlling the borders is only lip service. But that they give lip service to the idea instead of daring to openly oppose it demonstrates that controlling the border is a position that is popular with the American people. Voters are savvy enough to understand that it was the Democrats (in collusion with Bush and a small number of business-lobby Republicans) who demanded amnesty as a pay-off before agreeing to even the weak border enforcement that would have been provided in the Senate bill.

Well, just as abortion is not the only litmus test, stripes of Pubs have more than one issue defining their party ideology. One is always sobered when one thinks of BO, Her Highness, or any of the leftist socialist pacifist Dems getting the WH or for that matter more seats in Congress altogether.

Following Immigration Debate, Number of Republicans in USA Increases Interesting. I called my congressman and told him that I no longer consider myself a Republican - not until the party returns to its principles.

This goes against the myth propogated by RINO Fred Barnes, Dick Morris, the Wall Street Journal, and others that the GOP needs to provide “Immigration Reform” (re: amnesty) because they need the Hispanic vote.
The GOP needs its base more than trying to get more of 6% of vote (hispanics are only 6% of the vote currently)
Border security and enforcement of immigration laws are proven winners.

I am a member of the party, of anyone listening and making now their decisions in the best interest of the nation.
A lofty goal, but voting for the type of person listening to the citizens of the nation and their goals and aspiration for their children, and their children's children, otherwise I'll turn that person off, and my vote will not be surrendered as these arrogant #&*)ds, expect me too. I only have my vote, and my nation, and my Constitution provided by 'this nation's forefathers'. I do not believe having those articles will leave me without hope while the world attempts to destroy US.
