In any other surgical procedure, from a root canal to open heart surgery, the patient is shown x-rays,ultrsounds and any other imagery that can be obtained about the area in question. Why is abortion the only procedure where the patient is kept in the dark

Because the ultrasound would show that the “tissue” was in fact a living , growing fetus :)
