Not even baseball safe from 'gay' promotions Afternoon at the park to feature 'pride' singers, free caps for kids

Not even an afternoon at a baseball game apparently is going to be safe for parents who want to protect their children from advocates for homosexuality, with the San Diego Padres' confirmation their July 8 game will simultaneously offer free caps to attract children, and a formal recognition of the area's homosexual organization.

"San Diego Pride supporters and volunteers will be recognized for organizing the group event with a scoreboard welcome and the Gay Men's Chorus of San Diego will sing the National Anthem," the Major League Baseball team has announced on its website.

"This action by the San Diego Padres management has greatly tarnished their record as being a family friendly organization. They have truly offended the moral and religious sensibilities of literally thousands of fans. I will never look at the Padres the same way that I have over the past 40 plus years here in San Diego, enjoying its image as being pro family. It is really sad," said Phil Magnan, the director for Biblical Family Advocates.

(Story continues below)

Team spokesman Tim Haskins told WND that the team really didn't do anything – it was just a block purchase of tickets by a customer, in this case a "gay" organization, like any other bulk purchase.

And he said the fact that such an event coincides with a children's promotion offered by the team was a choice by the homosexual organization, since it's been the team's tradition to have children's events on Sundays.

"This is not an endorsement or partnership," he told WND.

But the team's website promotes the "Pride" game, offering tickets at a "discounted price" for those who punch in a code.

At the same time, the team is offering prizes for any children who come. "All kids 14 or younger will receive a Padres Floppy Cap presented by Union Bank of California and brought to you by Magic 92.5. This year's floppy cap for kids features silhouettes of the Swinging Friar," the website said.

Magnan said the team's promotion was a great disappointment.

"Can families any longer find a wholesome venue for their children?" he asked. "Why does the management of the San Diego Padres feel the need to cater to those who are engaged in perverted and immoral lifestyles? I have also been told that many people who have called or written the Padres have been disregarded and not taken seriously. I urge more fans and families to call the Padres and let them know how you feel about your children being visually assaulted by those who have little regard for decency.”

"You can reach the Padres with their own email form," he said.

James Hartline, who publishes the The James Hartline Report and addresses issues involving homosexuality, said his objections to the promotions will take shape in a protest at the game, where he's expecting several hundred fans to participate.

He's also confirmed that a team of concessions workers plans to walk off their jobs then, even though it will cost them hundreds of dollars in income, to protest the team's plans.

Hartline reported that Set Free Ministries partners with the Canning Hunger Organization to contract with ARAMARK to provide labor for concession stands at Petco Park, home of the Padres.

Nearby five dozen workers from that company and another one have announced plans to walk off the job on July 8 in protest of the "gay" event. Ministries development director J.D. Loveland said he and his workers were angry and frustrated that the "radical homosexual event" was being held on the same day the team already had planned a children's giveaway.

"We asked our men and women if they would be willing to bring their kids to Petco Park if they knew that their kids would be exposed to the San Diego Gay Pride event. Every single one of our clients said they would not. The vote was unanimous to walk off of the job on July 8th rather than be a part of the gay pride event at the stadium," explained Loveland.

But there is a cost. Officials said 90 percent of all income that comes into Set Free Ministries, which reaches out to those overcoming drug abuse, prostitution and other problems, comes from the concession stand contracts.

"The ministry will lose $1,860 when it walks off of the job on July 8th," Hartline reported. "Additionally, the ministry could be fined a total of $4,000…

"We intend to stand up against the gay agenda on July 8th," Loveland told Hartline. "I can only hope that our combined efforts will motivate other professing Christians to get out of their pews (comfort zone) and break out of those mysterious boxes called churches."

Hartline said it appears dozens of other major Christian ministries may be joining the effort. He'll know more at a rally he's planning in front of the park on game day.

He said besides Set Free Ministries, a group called The Training Center, C.R.A.V.E. (Christians Reviving America's Values), and America Asleep Know More are committed to helping.

"We may be all the way out in Kentucky, but we are proudly standing with you all in San Diego to make sure that all of our kids are protected and America is a better place for them," said Don Swarthout, president of C.R.A.V.E.

Longtime Padres supporters also have expressed their displeasure.

"This is a very slippery slope, and I hope you and (team owner) Mr. Moores will reconsider your position," wrote Mike Farmer, who's been supporting the team for years. "If you two want to hold hands and ride in the gay pride parade, go right ahead. But please don't bring this filth into a stadium that I helped pay for and in front of a team that I have spent thousands of dollars supporting over the years. I would sure like to know how some of the players with moral convictions feel about this travesty…"

Hartline has had considerable experience dealing with San Diego "Gay" Pride events. He reported in 2005, it was learned the group had hired sex offenders to work with various events, including a registered pedophile who was working in the event's "Children's Garden."

Then in 2006, numerous small children were marched in the parade under the banner of a local charter school.

WND has reported in the past that when a "Gay Day" was planned at the Ballpark in Arlington, home of the Texas Rangers, a protest group opposed it, and later declared victory because only 200 tickets were purchased by homosexuals for the event.

I’ve always preferred baseball over the other sports.

But this is taking it way, way too far...

We used to take our daughter and go to a dozen or so Portland (ME) Sea Dogs baseball games every year until they started parading and supporting homosexuals at the ball games. I sent our tickets back and got a letter saying when I felt comfortable with homosexuality being just as normal as heterosexuality, then they hoped I’d be back. We’ve never been back.......

Pride’s minor problem

Pride announced recently that youth 17 and under will no longer be allowed to enter the annual Pride festival without being accompanied by a parent or guardian. Following last year’s Pride scandal – in which three volunteers, one staff member and the clown from Pride’s children’s garden were discovered to be registered sex offenders – the community anticipated a few changes, but Pride’s move to exclude unaccompanied youth from the festival caught many, including us here at the Gay & Lesbian Times, by surprise.

But what does Pride want to protect our youth from?

Pride is working out the details, but it plans to make every parent or guardian sign a wavier before entering the festival grounds stating they are responsible for the well-being of their child. Make no mistake, this policy sends the message that the gay community cannot be trusted around youth. By adopting this policy, Pride has essentially sided with the religious right that says we can’t be Boy Scout leaders, teachers, coaches or even parents.

“Our Pride structure is about empowering as many people as possible,” Scott said. “We believe we must show our rich, diverse community in all of its grandeur. We’ve been working to strengthen the organization. To strengthen our presence in communities that don’t always feel included.”

To do this, L.A. Pride has devoted space within their festival specifically for youth, including a substance-free zone and a youth-empowerment zone called the Peer Party, providing youth-specific lectures, activities and entertainment. Their approach actually seeks to increase youth’s presence by reaching out to high schools with Gay-Straight Alliances and GLBT-related groups.

Pride is more than a parade or a festival. It’s an idea – a movement.

Convicted Sex Offenders Volunteer For Gay Pride Celebration

Padres promotions called unwelcome double play

June 27, 2007

July will be a busy month at Petco Park, with the Padres hosting special days for Episcopalians, children in summer camps, knitters and people of Jewish heritage. But it is Pride Night, a July 8 event for gays and lesbians, that is causing a stir.

San Diego Pride’s response to the hubbub: It’s people enjoying a game together, not a drag show.

“We’re going to be wearing ball caps and jerseys. That’s the extent of the lifestyle they will be seeing,” Pride Executive Director Ron deHarte said.

Union Bank of California is a sponsor of the promotion.

****Guy behind me kissed his buddy between the strikes; his partner kissed him between the balls.****

Reminds me of the Harry Carey line about a couple (guy and girl) who were kissing each other and Harry said he kisses her on the strikes and she kisses him on the balls.
