The loudest cheers went to conservative Representative Tom Tancredo, who spoke out against illegal immigration. "If you want to call me a single-issue candidate, that's fine as long as you know my issue is the survival of this country," he said.
Tom gets pretty excited, if his New Hampshire speech is an indication.
What sets Tancredo apart from the other GOP candidates:
I think that the fact that I have the most consistent record on immigration, along with the most consistent record on conservative issues in general. That is, Sen. Brownback has certainly been consistent on the life issue. But if you put everything togetherfiscal along with social issues, then I would come out with the most consistently conservative background.

I can’t see Tancredo really having a chance. But as things stand, he has my primary vote.
I took the trouble to make my write-in vote for Tancredo during the last election. While he was worth the effort the current holder of the office has consistently pulled down his britches and unloaded on true conservatives. Arrogantly and insultingly.
Slim chance or not - it’s our duty to vote for the candidate who one feels is the best person for the job. Better to do what’s truly right than be among the ranks of the Lesser Evil crowd.
But he hates illegals more than anyone else, so all is forgiven!.
"Illegal aliens threaten our economy and undermine our culture. While our brave soldiers risk their lives to protect us overseas, our political elites lack the courage to defend us at home. I am 100% opposed to amnesty. As President, I will secure our borders so illegal aliens do not come, and I will eliminate benefits and job prospects so they do not stay." Tom Tancredo
Yes, I like Hunter's fence too but is Hunter also for taking away job prospects (punishing employers who hire illegals) and taking away their government benefits?
They won't go home if they can get government benefits or jobs.
Tom Tancredo seems to be the most conservative and has the right solutions.
Tom stands for America Want to know where Tom stands on the issues and what must be done today for the preservation of our future?Immigration

Income Tax
A growing chorus of economists and experts argue, and I agree, that the current income tax system is complex and unfair and should be replaced by a flat tax or national sales tax. Simplifying the process would dramatically reduce the costs of compliance, make American companies more competitive, and put billions back into the economy by encouraging investment.
Education
I spent a decade as the Department of Education's regional representative in Denver so I do not say this lightly. Federal involvement should be limited. Educational control is best left in the hands of parents. A no-strings-attached voucher system would promote school choice, while competition for students would drive educational improvements at the institutional level. I also suggest schools return to a more traditional course of study and that the public focus shift to certain non-school factors, like parental involvement, which studies show are the most important determinants of student performance.

Who cares about what someone did or didn't do in their youth? I care about how my life and the United States is going to improve or not.
I forgot who you’re supporting Rome2000. Tell me again?
Then he's got a better chance than if he didn't have your vote.
Until we have security and some semblance of border control, most Americans will not support any benefits, amnesty, or whatever you want to do to help the illegal immigrant. This is the basic problem with your philosophy and those who supported the legislation. Security first. Then we will listen to other changes.
You need to impress upon us that you care more about us then you do illegal immigrants. And some of us have relatives waiting years to get in and the people you support can walk across tonight. THEY MUST GET IN LINE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!
Here is my proposal. Feel free to run with it.
1. Do the job you swore to do. Enforce the current laws. Support and reinforce the officers working the border. Support a federal law directing local police and other law enforcement to take action to detain and initiate deportation of those here illegally. Jail employers of illegal immigrants.
2. No benefits for those in the country illegally. Exception, those with true emergency medical conditions will receive treatment while their deportation is initiated.
3. Initiate a constitutional amendment to stop the anchor baby phenomenon.
4. Build the fence.
5. Change the immigration quotas to reflect real needs justified by industry and/or states. Make the justifications public. So the average American knows how many we are allowing in and why. We will support something logical, fair, and needed AFTER our security is taken care of.
Milton Friedman: A country cannot simultaneously be a welfare state and have open borders.
Put me down for Thompson, at least he’s not been certified as a mental defective by the US Armed Forces.
There you go again. What is it with you about lying about Tancredo? A couple of weeks ago the moderator had to pull post after post because you continued to lie. Now you're doing it again.
Produce the documents that show where the US Armed Forces "certified" Tancredo as "a mental defective" or ask the admin moderator to pull your post.
Your tactics are disgusting. If you disagree with the man's positions then fight that battle, but lies and one line hits more familiar to DU posters like what you throw out at a conservative are worthless.
Anyway, judging from his poll #'s, he won't be getting near the WH unless they start giving tours again.
Thompson who took a deferment because he had children? How many people who fought in Vietnam had children?
So Tancredo couldn’t, but Thompson could, and chose not to?
How is Tancredo a danger to the GOP? because he’s an advocate for everything they aren’t?
So you attack someone whose positions you agree with?
just think he is a danger to the GOP
LOL ... You sound like a country clubber. Somebody needs to shake up the GOP. Lately, the Party is becoming more and more a danger to the country.
What happened to fiscal conservatism and the GOP?
Anyway, judging from his poll #'s, he won't be getting near the WH unless they start giving tours again.
Then stop using DU tactics to smear him. If it's Tancredo personally you don't like, that's fine. But why lie and distort for the sake of personal attacks? It just makes you look bad and certainly won't have any affect on Tancredo's poll numbers.
Actually, the loudest charges were outside among the larger crowd listening to Ron Paul.
LOL, I wouldn’t doubt it.
Are you saying the Paul supporters were being arrested loudly?
Yes, that would be the crowd that came to see one candidate that outnumbered the low turnout at Ed’s ‘forum’.
