I believe it is spelled Insurance Costs.

Insurance costs in Florida I have heard are really getting bad. Hurricanes, Tornadoes,Fires and sink holes, are driving costs up faster than people can afford.

From waht I understand this is the first year that more people are moving out of Florida thanare moving in.

You got that right, Sarg - homeowners insurance rates around here (Tampa area) and all over the state have suddenly doubled this year ... this is a pretty hefty increase from a newly elected gov who campaigned to “Stop the insurance companies from bankrupting Floridians!”

Bingo. Plus, property taxes aren’t helping, and the ridiculous plan the legislature pushed through is best described as a double-edged sword. It helps now, hurts later.

It all depends on where you live in Florida. I just got my renewal notice for my homeowners yesterday and it was $750 for this upcoming year. My home is values for tax purposes at $245,000. However I do live inland near Gainesville about 50 miles from the nearest coastline. By contrast my sister who lives about a 20 minute walk from the beach pays $4000 for a home only valued at $125K. The main problem here in Florida is that we are basically trapped in our homes unless we want to move out of state because of the property taxes. The system awards long term homeowners and punishes those who move within the state. I would actually like to downsize to something smaller but its actually cheaper to stay in the bigger more expensive home because my property taxes would go way up if I moved.
