Miami Vice, Crime Story (anyone remember crime story)...and I guess that’s about it for interesting shows on NBC...and they arent even on anymore.

***

Crime Story was cool, if for no better reason than the old 1950’s automobiles...back in the day when cars looked like cars, instead of little square boxes like they do now. Even if the story line was lame, I loved watching that show just to see the old cars.

I remember that Saturday nights at one time were owned by NBC — they had a really good comedy block then. Golden Girls was my mother’s favorite. A devout Catholic, she had to hurry home from Mass Saturday nights so she could get out of her church clothes and into her jammies and be ready for when Golden Girls came on. Heaven help you if you tried to change the channel for something else. She’d break your arm. :)

I'm addicted to "Deadliest Catch" and I like "Dirty Jobs" too. Both are hosted by Mike Rowe and show the "real" reality of humanity at its best or worst as the circumstances dictate.

I can hardly wait for the new season of the SCI-FI Channel hit "EUReKA" to start this weekend.

Stepping down into the more common fare, I enjoy watching the antics of The Tuetuls on "American Chopper", what a coincidence, also narrated by Mike Rowe.

The only traditional alphabet network shows that I have watched in the past ten years happen to be on NBC.

The one that had me glued to the sofa every week is "Heroes" for the wonderfully crafted story and the special "cookies" that are sprinkled through each episode.

I have also enjoyed watching "My Name is Earl" although not so much now that the character development has drifted.

Allow me to repost some previous research.
New media reporter Michael Yon just broke a story on al Qadia massacring a whole village in Iraq. Big old mass media chose to mostly ignore the story. Commenting on big old mass media's preoccupation with other stories Yon notes that
... On this question of media selectivity, the blogosphere has become incensed that big media mostly ignored the murders, especially given that there are reporters currently in Baqubah. Newsbusters and countless others are on it. More disturbing to many bloggers is that major mainstream players were busted (again) by Pajamas Media just days ago for reporting outright fabrications of a “massacre” that never occurred. ...

Big old mass media's "top" stories for today starts with:

Given that most of big old mass media's top stories concern politics conservatives will get much better mileage out of new media sites such as National Review Online, Cyber News Service, and Front Page Magazine to name but a few of countless new media sites offering political news.

Apparently you must miss all the shows that have homosexuals swapping spit and women and men humping without benefit of marriage. If you watch MTV all day, I guess it looks normal for you. I remember catching a couple of episodes of ABC's "The Bachelor"( I don't watch NBC, or CBS, and most of the time don't watch ABC) when one woman said she was saving herself for her husband. Needless to say, she was not the winner.

Pagan Satan worshiping.( I guess that is common in your church?)

Satan isn’t a pagan thing. And people humping isn’t Satanic. Hate to break it to ya, but you wouldn’t be here without it.

Ok. That's a given!

My point is that "readership" and "viewership" numbers don't tell the complete story of "media control."

I submit that you could cut the entire investigative reporter squad in the country from, what, 10,000? (whatever it is) down to about 50 at the NYT to simply cut-n-paste AP/Reuters stories---pitted against a doubled-up force at NRO, CNS, etc, and you'd STILL have the same total left-leaning bias across the country, as all the local papers (Dallas Morning News, Daily Oklahoman, etc) would simply regurgitate the AP/NYT/Reuters articles.

Do you see what I'm getting at? The faster the Dinosaur Media goes down, the less local influence (read blue-state input) there will be.

Sure, if I'm a discerning conservative political junkie, I can go to NRO.

But what about a human interest story on Katrina? That's going to have a 100% leftist slant on it, going to have wide distribution, and it's going to have zero 'byline' or sources on which to call and complain.

To be honest, Chuckles, I didn’t get the Satan worship comment either — I was picturing a group of wiccans dancing around a fire and thought, when was the last time I actually saw that on tv? Sorry...I didn’t understand either.

Sadly, I think you may be hard pressed to find much on tv (network or cable) that conforms to your beliefs. Even the last time I watched ABC Family — I saw something that, while I’m thick skinned and not easily offended, might have offended some people. Not much good programming out there for everyone, especially those with higher moral standards.

They put it on Fridays?!

What genni-eye at NBC. Let’s schedule a show about High School football on at the same time REAL high school football games are being played. Just illustrating once again how out of touch they are with their viewers.

Maybe if programming departments weren’t run by gays or metrosexuals, programming that the average American wanted to see would actually make it onto the air waves?

FYI Milhous' just released Communication Stream of Big Old Mass Media Conspiracy Commerce pinpoints the origin of all MSM stories to the UK's Guardian. :)

I love Friday Night Lights, but it seems a stupid decision to move FNL to Friday nights. People who like that show might just actually be at football games on Friday nights instead of watching that show. The people running NBC are idiots. I also liked the Black Donnellys and they cancelled that after moving it around and putting it up against the other networks top ratings getters. No wonder nobody watched, but I liked it and I hardly watch anything that is not on a science or history related channel or news and sports.

Is the move to Fridays for the fall or for just the summer? Where I live, we don’t have high school football till sometime in the fall, so watching the show Friday nights now is not a problem. Now, if it is a “permanent” move, then shame on the network.

NBC blew their big chance when they were offered Battlestar Galactica a couple of years ago.

NBC is owned by the same people who own the Sci-Fi Channel. They did air the "re-imagined" Battlestar Galactica a year or two ago.

It got spectacularly dismal ratings.

The ratings for its Season 3 on the Sci-Fi Channel are so bad that people are wondering why the awful thing is still being made.

Yes, I hate that show.

Hmm. So there’s only TWO sources for all news....The Guardian, and Alex Jones?

My thoughts exactly. CBS and even ABC manage to produce popular shows with stayability.. NBC, on the otherhand, just HAS to throw political statements into all their formerly popular and new programs and people are fed up and tune out... my question is:

When will GE get fed up and fire everyone at NBC and rebuild the Peacock network before it is totally destroyed... why they haven't before now is the biggest mystery.

I get the impression that the move will take place for the upcoming fall season.

I agree with you. People who like a football theme in their programming are likely to be out WATCHING football on a Friday night.

Not only high school games. There are a growing number of colleges that play a Friday night game as well.

I never did see “The Black Donnellys”. My sister watched it. She liked it.

If NBC wants to move “Friday Night Lights” to Friday Nights then they can count on a major loss of viewers in Texas. Take a wild guess where we are on Friday nights during the High School football season. A hint, it is not in front of the TV.
