MUST READ . . .
PRESIDENT RESPECTS JUSTICE
So he lifted excessive sentence but left convictions, fine, probation.
By TONY SNOW
. . . The Constitution gives the president the power to grant clemency in a wide range of cases, at his discretion, with no restrictions. In the final hours of the Clinton administration, this unfettered authority was embodied in a mad rush to push through pardons with dizzying haste 141 grants on Clinton’s final day in office, part of 211 in the final nine weeks.
In contrast, no president in recent history has made more careful use of the pardoning power than George W. Bush: The president believes pardons and commutations should reflect a genuine determination to strengthen the rule of law and increase public faith in government.
. . . The president was not motivated by politics in making this decision. If he had made the decision based on opinion polls, he wouldn’t have lifted a finger.
Instead, he did what he does normally, and what makes those of us who work for him proud. He proceeded on the basis of principle, and arrived at a sound and just decision knowing he would take hits in the court of public opinion, but also knowing he was doing the right thing.

SURGE UPDATE:
Chuck over at Americas North Shore Journal updates The Surge with some graphs:
Two things of note that I suspect you won’t see in the media.
IED deaths are down for June from the high in May. In fact, there were fewer Americans killed in Iraq in June than in May.
Combat deaths from non IED causes were down for the second month in a row. The trend indicates that the peak has passed several months ago.
He also put up some other points that were ignored by the MSM, those being the numbers of terrorists killed since Jan 2007 and other successes:
SNUGS: WOULD YOU POST THE TABLES . . . I’m sure everyone here would enjoy the information provided!!

Thanks for opening Sanity Island for us once again.
Hope you and your dad are doing okay this summer.
That was a great dog.
Thank you for that link, DrDeb. Brit Hume mentioned it this evening and I forgot.
Great photos, snugs! Our President’s soul shines thru in the informal shots, doesn’t it?
I loved his retort to Bill Clinton’s insult today. My only complaint has been that he doesn’t do that often enough!
Please pray for our President.
Sanity Island has become a real refuge these days!

:o)
My pleasure
Post away have fun :o)
Thank you
Lovely black and white of the President and Barney
What a great photo! I’ve never seen that one before.
Thanks for the news that never makes it to the newspapers.
As Tony said:”If he had made the decision based on opinion polls, he wouldnt have lifted a finger.”
Thank God this president listens to his heart and head rather than reacting to opinion polls that are written and published mostly by liberal think-tanks and news media sources.
Keep up the good work. We need to publish the numbers of insurgents killed weekly in bold print so we’ll get a sense of perspective that we certainly don’t have now!
