THE changes are quickly taking place on the mayor's Web site.
For instance, it no longer displays photos of Villaraigosa with his soon-to-be ex-wife Corina, and their children, Antonio Jr. and Natalie Fe.
But such happy-family photos used to be on display, because the mayor made his family life part of his public image during his campaigns for the California state Assembly, Los Angeles City Council, and for mayor of Los Angeles. "I'm a devoted family man," they suggested about Villaraigosa, although photos of his children from earlier relationships were nowhere to be seen.
Instead, the Web site now shows photos of Villaraigosa with celebrities like Bill Clinton and Magic Johnson, whose sexual dalliances have caused major scandals.
Whose photo will be added next? Villaraigosa with Pee Wee Herman or Paris Hilton?
How about Fatty Arbuckle?
The mayor took a bad situation and made it even worse the other day when he said that these issues are none of the public's business.
That's flat-out wrong. The mayor made his family life grist for the public mill when his career was ascending. And he continues to do this while it's on the descent by calling press conferences to talk about who

The mayor can't have it both ways.
What happens if the mayor ends up with yet another baby at some point? Will he restrain himself from posting photos of his new family? Will it, once again, become a tool for advancing his career?
But the most troubling claim by Villaraigosa is that his scandal isn't distracting him from his work as mayor.
Really?
Couldn't the time squandered on these press conferences have been used, instead, for the LAUSD, the homeless, traffic, or why the city's animal shelters are still missing 10 of their veterinarians? What about using that time to plant some of the million trees Villaraigosa promised us?
This controversy is distracting the mayor from his job.
He must be thanking his lucky stars he isn’t a Republican.

Villaraigosa, in addition to being a devoted family man, must be a puzzled man from all the reflux over the dalliance. After all, isn’t it the divine right of duly elected democrats to sample the wares of all the court wenches? Think Clinton, Newsom, McGreevey (okay, maybe “wenches” is stretching it). Oh, now it’s clear. They’re gringos. It’s racism.
