I hadn't been aware of how often tourists in the Middle East and adjacent regions (Kenya, Morocco) are targeted for attacks. Methinks some of the university art and archeology tours may be downplaying the problem somewhat.

I see nine incidents from 1993 to 2003. Egypt had the most, four incidents in a couple of years in the mid/late 90's in which 158 people were killed.

you gotta be a Darwin Award nominee to take a vacation in a place like Yemen or Syria. These peoples’ minds are so clouded by Political Correctness that they either do not grasp the nature of the problem and its inherent risk (e.g. “terrorists are a tiny fraction of a tiny minority”) or feel they are making a liberal stand (e.g. “I will spend my guilty western currency in Arabia, because poverty causes terrorism.”) I have little sympathy for them.
