"More defections are expected, and Mr Bush cuts a lonely figure, holed up in the White House fretting over his legacy."

Gag me! George W. Bush has had many false accusations hurled at him. "Fretting over his legacy" ranks near the top.

I've disagreed with the president on some issues, but I've never doubted that his decisions are grounded in his personal conviction to do what he believes is right according to the information provided to him.

He'll trust his legacy to God, imo. Prayer forestalls loneliness and fretting. The president has said he is a prayerful man, so I doubt he'll be "holed up", fretting uselessly over his legacy, or anything else.

All believers in the power of prayer should be praying with him and for him. There is a reason we are commanded to pray for those in positions of power.

Clinton legacy — The only American president to ally himself with Muslims in a war against Christians.

On the plus side, the President clearly understands that we are in a generational war against Islamic extremism. Planting the seeds of democracy in Afghanistan and Iraq may ultimately lead to victory.
Domestically, his tax rate reductions allowed the American people the freedom we needed to rise out of the Clinton Recession. The tax rate reductions have created jobs and increased revenues to the federal government. And he made two great picks for the Supreme Court.
On the negative side, amnesty for the illegals would have destroyed this nation, creating a liberal democrat monopoly in government. The prescription drug program is another government fiasco.

Pray for W and Our Troops

W’s speech to the Nat. Guard Convention in WVA on the 4th, showed just the opposite. He was wrong about illegal immigration and coziness with the Dems but he is so right in the war against Islamofascism.

You don't sound like a bigoted hysterical fool to me. Your post was right over the target, and you received flack from the usual people.

Bush could accidentally nuke Atlanta, and some would continue to support this Administration. I don't know what made some people like this, but it nothing short of a political twilight zone.

I personally trust no politician.

In today's America, since the Federal government wants everyone drug tested, I think this random testing should start at the Oval Office, then right into Congress. Just like they demand of other Americans in the middle class do.

I believe all politicians, Senate, Congress, local and state should be limited to 1 or 2 years in office. And that's it! This will dramatically help reduce corruption. No more career politicians making a living off the taxpayers money.

I believe those in the Senate, Congress should be paid near minimum wage for the privilege of serving. We will provide them with room and board, their meals and transportation.

All Federal politicians should be monitored while on the job and their financial affairs should be investigated and monitored constantly. ALL of their office business calls should be recorded in an effort to reduce corruption.

No more closed door meetings by ANY public officials. Period. This is causing uncontrollable corruption.

We either get this country straight, and get a grip on those that have power and control, or we lose this country.

Yep, many people outsource their thinking to a politician or a mullah.

I would add, the only closed door meetings allowed should be for and in regards to the defense of this country.

My tagline says it all.

I don’t think history will be kind to shrub. Unpopular war, major attack on American soil, spending like a drunken sailor...

I think he’s a decent man who is in over his head and has some advisors that are less than scrupulous.

I would also add that Bush needs to stop running around mosks in his socks saying “islam is peace”. The POTUS has no business advertising for freakish death cults, its a separation of church and state issue. Especially the one on who’s watch the 10 commandments got taken out of courthouses... hello?

I don't have any hatred for President Bush. The President has made several serious mistakes and no one is being served by pretending that he hasn't.

Need an example? He pushed an amnesty bill that almost everyone hated (even a lot of liberals) and when it was thrown back in his face, what did he do? He resubmitted it — the same bill that the country said "no thanks" to. Bush's "I'm the Decider" routine would be inspiring — or at least admirable — if his decisions had a better track record.

Also, who cares about Clinton? Is that our new standard? "At least he's not Clinton"? Great. Neither was Gore — maybe we should have elected him [eye roll].

Doubled spending of the Border Patrol during his term of office.

So what? Didn't do much good, did it? Since he took office millions of illegals have strolled across that border, and he would rather see the border patrol agents in jail than the invaders.

Do you think that "the terrorists are coming" and OPEN BORDERS are a good mix?? If you think that's a good mix, you must also think that having our kids fighting a fake war in Iraq so his buddies can get oil rights is good too. You must also think it's OK that American citizens are forced to pay billions of dollars to support the invaders (20? million or more of them). There's more, but I won't bore you since you think I'm a bigot.

I will repeat what I think of the Bush presidency - PUTRID.

Seriously, he was an embarrassment to say the least. Can we get back on topic please? What is your point?

*snort* Somehow I don’t think the President is agonizing over what the Guardian thinks about anything, much less his ‘legacy’.

“In Texas it’s traditional for Anglos to recognize the day Mexico won its independence from France, right alongside Hispanics.”

A singularly odd practice, if indeed, such is the case, particularly in the context of the present state of affairs with Mexico and Mexican illegals.

Make as many excuses, pardons, explanations you wish, but a better candidate for a Democrats to target in 2008, as they did in 2006, never materialized before in Republican ranks.

Yes, but even if were a success, the opinion molders would still declare him a failure. Had he stood solidly for conservative principles instead of his own stubbornness, he and the nation would have been far better served. Surely his standing could have been no lower had he adopted his own party’s platform.

The problem is that the American people regard B. Clinton as a success and will reward his “wife” to show it.
