It's the Border Stupid: Making Government Accountability a Top Election Year Issue
GOPublius.com ^ | July 6, 2007 | GOPublius

In 1992, the mood of the country was captured by a simple slogan, it read, “The Economy, Stupid!” It was a message that would form the centerpiece of a winning campaign by then Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton. As we enter the 2008 election cycle campaigns will be scrambling once again to come up with the winning formula.

Polls will be taken, hundreds of them, in an ongoing attempt to gauge the mood of the American people and to try and uncover a set of issues that will help propel the winning candidate into office. Pundits tells us that in 2008, Iraq and national security will be big issues, as will the economy, but that health care and education will also be significant players. Never mind that the federal government has no constitutional duties in the later two categories, they’re still issues and therefore candidates will be talking about them. But as last month’s collapse of the amnesty legislation has shown us, there is another issue – an issue that is bigger than just the border security and illegal immigration crisis. It is the issue of government accountability.

For the opponents of illegal immigration and amnesty, and for all those disgusted by the utter dereliction of border security duty on the part of the federal government, it is time to redouble our efforts - and it begins with being conscious about driving the national dialogue.

The bottom line is this—the border states need to gear up their own legislatures to take action. The inept Congress can’t and won’t—they are too myopically focused on their own reelection.

It has become the states’ perogative because the Feds have abdicated responsibility for the problem in their failure to take action.

Yes, they should be held accountable for the failures at the border. Getting away with murder in Hazleton is one more reason why, if more reasons be needed.

What people forget is that Clinton raised our taxes to the point that there were trillions of dollars of surplus. Surplus that was our money. Governments don’t tax to bank the money. They are supposed to tax to run the government and the country. When they tax to the point that they can bank the money, they tax too much.

Now we see immigrants coming here to the extent that it is “too much”. What our leaders want now is open borders and they believe that they can force the American people to accept it. I believe they heard the people loud and clear but the pressure of the people needs to continue. They hope we will get bored with it all and are waiting us out.

I don’t disagree, but that only makes our border security as strong as the weakest link in the chain, e.g., California, etc. Demographics, party affiliation and ethnocentric lobbies are such a powerful combination in these states that it will never happen. We need the whole voice of the American public to force a change - it’s a federal problem.

It’s all about action.
Congress was concocting new legislation while ignoring current laws.
What American Citizen in their right mind would believe that they would enforce the ‘new’ laws?
From now on whenever a politician says ‘comprehensive’ about anything, we’re going to pay attention. Never should they be able to slip a 350 page monstrosity by the citizens.

It’s illegal immigration stupid. I am so tired of talk show hosts spending 95% of their time on Iraq when illegal immigration is this country’s number one problem.

Our resident talk show moron, Hugh Hewitt, yesterday afternoon asked his guest, "Why did the 'Comprehensive' Immigration Bill Fail?"

I was screaming at the radio because both of them went on and on and on about sundry and exotic reasons, when the plain answer was three words:

The 1986 Amnesty

or perhaps three words,

Executive Political Incompetence.

It never occurs to these wonks and "experts" that laws don't matter, only the selective application of laws that are chosen for enforcement.

"What our leaders want now is open borders and they believe that they can force the American people to accept it."

And just like what is taking place in Europe, IF the people turn down the proposals the elites make to achieve their ends, then they will use a backdoor method to bypass us and force it on us. Sooner or later, it will come to the point where we will either have to fight them for control, or give in and accept that America is over.

Effective Border Security
Enforcement of our Current Immigration Laws
NO to ANY Amnesty for Illegal Aliens
NO to Birthright Citizenship
NO to a North American Union

This will be another critical election year. The bipartisan OBL must be stopped and electing another OBL puppet must not happen. IMO, our choices are extremely limited.

LOL, of course it seems incomprehensible that they can’t hear our simple message.

Remember the Minutemen? Pointing out the lack of enforcement only got them called “vigilantes” by the Commander-in-Chief. Bush pledged before God to uphold the law. Reminds me of what he said at the CAIR conference, but don’t get me started....LOL
