Court of Appeals takes up Corrie lawsuit
SEATTLE TIMES ^ | Saturday, July 7, 2007 | Roxana Popescu

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit will hear arguments Monday whether there is merit to a lawsuit by the family of Rachel Corrie, the 23-year-old activist from Olympia killed by a bulldozer in the Gaza Strip in 2003.

The defendant in the case is Caterpillar, which made the D9 bulldozer involved in her death.

The case, Corrie et al. v. Caterpillar, was filed in Seattle in 2005, but a district court dismissed it. After this hearing, the appeals court will rule whether the suit should be dismissed or sent back to the lower court.

Cindy and Craig Corrie, the woman's parents, allege Caterpillar violated human rights and committed war crimes by knowingly selling its equipment to the Israeli army, which used the bulldozers to raze Palestinian homes and endanger people. Rachel Corrie was run over by a bulldozer driven by an Israeli soldier as she tried to block a home from demolition.

yes, her parents never told her not to play in an active construction site, stand in front of a moving bulldozer, associate with islamic terrorists, burn flags, etc. I suppose hey ignored her as a child. She did seem hungry for attention, so at least she got in the newspapers.

I recall seeing the video and she was run over.

There was no video of the incident.

The video you linked is a bunch of different clips spliced together.

It does not show the bulldozer running over Corrie, it shows her lying on the ground afterward.

This is bizarre enough, but the fact that there is actually a court that may consider this suit to have merit is really creepy.

Anyone can see where this farce is headed.

She had some weird mental motivations going on in that bizarre mind of hers.

I'm sure her radical left parents had quite a bit to do with that.

Right from the very start you can claim this claim will collapse.

Without ever seeing the inside of a law school, I could defend this case for Caterpillar in two sentences.

(1) The United States Courts courts generally have no jurisdiction over events occurring in locations outside the United States. (Yes, there are exceptions, but they don't apply here.)

(2) Caterpillar violated no U. S. statute in selling its equipment to Israel.

Remember this is the 9th circus court we are talking about here.

Which means they will rule for the Corries and the case will go on to the Supreme Court, who will smack down the 9th yet again...my prediction.

This lawsuit cannot/will not be won by the Corries. The sole purpose of it is exert pressure on Caterpillar via bad publicity. To get Caterpillar to not sell to Israel

Who is their lawyer? Bet it’s an activist lawyer who is being paid little because he is a crusader, he is part of “the cause”

I understand the Caterpillar filed its legal briefs for this case electronically - in the form of flat files.
