The bigger issue is the actual ordinance that said you have to have a green lawn!
In the city I live in they now have a law that if your grass is over 8 inches tall you can be ticketed and fined up to $500!
I have weeds that are a foot tall - will I get fined? Nobody knows. Who enforces this? Nobody knows. From what point is the 8 inches measured and does ALL the grass have to be that tall or only some of it?
It’s like we all live in gated communities with the people we elect to these offices (or are hired like a City Manager) worried about housing values. For Pete’s sake the housing values here have already tanked - can’t go anywhere but up even if the grass is two feet tall.
It’s really time to start taking a look at these silly laws and ordinances and get rid of the fools who write them, then get them off the books.
I can see if it is for health/safety reasons but not for appearance. We have been having a lot of rain lately. I mowed the back, but had to to stop. I came back the next day to finish and there were high weeds already up from the mowed part.
If you lived in Wichita a couple of decades ago, you'd know...."BTK, Code Enforcement Czar" ruled the 'hood with an iron fist by day...
HI, where in Florida do you live?
Claim the weeds are xeriscape. Maybe that will shut them up.
Good points. In my city ‘snow emergencies’ are declared and you are not allowed to park on city streets—so the snow plows have an easier job. Threats of parking tickets, ordnance tickets, towing charges, and impound fees are thrown around at the citizens during city council meetings.
Surprise ! There is nothing in the city charter or ordnance rules on the city books.
Not one vehicle has been ticketed/impounded in my cities history of 55 years.
Same goes for water restrictions here.
Smoke and mirrors.
Cut your grass.
From what I have seen around here the only time someone comes by to enforce a city ordinance like lawn upkeep is when a neighbor calls in a complaint, then the city will send an officer out to check it out. We didn't see her yard, just a picture of her with a piece of plywood propped up against her house.
If my grass is over 6 “ tall they mow it for me and send me a bill. $100 for a teeny tiny front lawn... I also am not allowed to have an A/C unit unless I take it out in the winter. Same thing for an outside cover (like a tarp over the back porch). My cats must be on a leash. I must get permission to change the layout of my fence or put up new numbers on the front my house. I cannot stain my fence any darker than its “natural color” (gray). I cannot have more than one of the same plant in a row or it is a “natural fence”. My trash cans cannot be seen from the street except on trash day. I cannot cut down the cherry tree in my front yard. The rules go on and on and on... I am, however, allowed to let my lawn “die back to it’s natural state” in the summer.... LOL!
When we moved in, the City Fathers told us to plant trees and lawn. We did so. Now, after approving unrestricted growth and hundreds of new houses, they have changed their tune: plant desert plants, use very little water on them and change the lawn into a rock garden. Lawmakers are are mentally defective!
