The "crescent" logo was added when they acquired McDonnell-Douglas.

Was MD’s logo long, long ago.

I can live with THIS "crescent" --

-- inherited from McDonnell-Douglas (see: www.boeing.com)

But, I do NOT like the "in your face" crescent -- right in the middle of the words "Dream Liner" --

Sometimes a moon is just a moon.
LOL!
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm sure it is just some INNOCENT "co-incidence..."
The problem is, I never seem to see SIMILAR "innocent co-incidences" where some corporate logo "just happens" to contain a Christian cross, or a Star of David.

When you look closely at the Boeing logo it is the “Nike Swoosh” on top of the old Mac logo with out the rocket.

Try not to look at the Dreamliner logo as a crescent but view it as a croissant.

They said earlier that they had orders for 577 787s already. Does that make it profitable right away? I heard the 380 is going to sell 400 to start making profit. I don’t imagine the 787 would be altogether different.

Argh!

The 787's nickname is the DREAMliner.

When do you have dreams? When you sleep.

When do you sleep? For most of us, at night.

What happens at night? Quite often, the moon comes out.

Hence, in this context, the crescent moon is obviously a graphic element meant to emphasize and enhance the DREAM aspect of the DREAMliner name.

It doesn't really get any more complex that that!

I'd sure be pi$$ed if the Moose Limbs were to take away our affection for the moon.

If it makes you feel any better, think of the crescent moon as a reminder that it was the good ol' USA that made the first and only manned landings on the moon!

The zinger was went Scott Carson (Boeing executive VP) and Tom Brokaw were looking back to their “longest flight.”
Scott Carson said his was 18 hours and 20 minutes from Asia to New York. He said it was a slow flight.... in an AIRBUS! The audience loved it.

Maybe.

I understand: "Dream, night" = "moon."

FReepers have had this conversation previously.
See, for instance, THIS thread:
Weird McDonald's Logo
Still, I will feel a lot better when the ACLU starts making people take CRESCENTS down, instead of just CROSSES.

You do realize Putin was up visiting the president in Maine. It could have been an Antonov aircraft transporting Putins stuff in and out of the country.
The US uses C-5 Starlifters (very large aircraft) to transport the Presidential detail around the world.

Yes I realize Putin was up. We have seen the Antovov take off before. Not the same plane.

And where do you suppose that 'croissant' might have come from? The frogs have had a long love affair with islamists dating back three hundred years or more.

The A380 unveiling had chicks, smoke, and lasers; more appropriate stuff.

The A380 needed something to gloss over it’s dismal record so far......

Just checked the numbers. 677 actual orders with another 20 pledged.

The A380 has just over 200.

Looks like the 787 is the better choice for airlines.

The croissant was created as an insult to the Muslims during the seige of Vienna. Read up on it. Probably the worst thing you could have from a Muslim point of view is a ham filled Burger King croisandwich. :)

The 777 roll-out had lasers and smoke etc. This one had all the multi media stuff inside before the big unveiling. It is hard to capture the effect on TV. You need to see it form one angle. The room is relatively dark and when that huge door (300 feet wide) started to open you could only see a strip of bright white light. The door continued to open wider and wider until you could just see the nose of the airplane. It was moving slowly and to the left. As the door opened wider the plane got larger until it was right up to the front.

The incredible paint job in perfect sunlight against a cloudless blue sky was stunning.

There were several hundred people across the freeway waiting for a glimpse (of course they saw it before we did but to them they saw the doors open to 15,000 people cheering).
