SYDNEY Prime Minister John Howard on Sunday announced plans to introduce new immigration screening measures that involve intelligence data being matched with the travel and financial history of people who aspire to enter Australia, to determine if they might be a security risk. "It will significantly enhance our capacity to examine the background of people who seek to come to this country," Howard told a press conference in Sydney.
Howard said extra resources would be provided to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and to the Australian Security Intelligence Organization responsible for the protection of the country and its citizens from terrorism, espionage and sabotage to fast-track implementation of the new system by September. "These new measures will include amongst other techniques, matching movement and financial data with associations a person may have overseas or in Australia to provide a more comprehensive picture and targeted security advice," he said, noting that criminal history and terrorist connections are already covered by the current system.
Neither! France makes to much money selling white flags and the US is far, far too PC. We might screen the Amish but no one else.
