Is Elton John going to prance around and sing again?
BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!
I commute to/from work in the Texas hill country. There are lots of deer and the occasional mountain lion crossing the hiways early morning just before sun up. An 8-pt. buck stepped into my path of travel one morning and I hit him doing 70mph. There was absolutely nothing I could have done to avoid him. In fact, as I swerved behind him (using the shoulder) he stepped backward a couple of steps. That messed me up badly; one of his antlers missed my femoral by ~.5” on my left thigh. That was when I was driving around with the stock muffler...sounded like a sewing machine. Too quiet. I now have a loud pipe. The deer and other wildlife are long gone before I get to any roadside spot they might have been feeding around. You see, the deer can hear the loud bike coming. Ditto for the soccer moms who are chatting on their cell phones while driving. Ditto for the old lady in the parking lot who can’t see a thing, but she sure will look around before backing out once she hears my bike. No need to be a snob about people with loud pipes. The saying “loud pipes saves lives” actually does mean something. By the way, the bike I ride is 100% function and performance WITH style and image. See, you can have it all if you wish. If you think you can’t get performance from a 2-in-1 loud pipe on a v-twin, think again. Since you prefer driving with quiet pipes, more power to ya. Good luck when an animal who couldn’t hear you coming bolts in front of you on a country lane.
p.s. I won’t bother printing what category you fall under with your judgemental rhetoric.
The 105th anniversary party, scheduled for Aug. 28-31, 2008, will be more similar to the fest in 1998 than the big 100th anniversary celebration in 2003 that culminated with a massive party on Milwaukee’s lakefront and an Elton John concert that played to, well, mixed reviews.
At the company’s annual meeting this spring, Harley Chief Executive Jim Ziemer already promised - to cheers - that Elton John won’t be back next year.
Oh, and riders of Japanese bikes are quite welcome! Come and visit; you might actually have fun . . .
