19 million tune into Live Earth concerts

NEW YORK - Nineteen million people tuned in to watch the Live Earth concerts on NBC and cable channels affiliated with the network, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The total audience of 18.995 million includes viewers who watched at least six minutes of the telecasts on NBC, CNBC, Telemundo, the Sundance Channel, Bravo, MSNBC and Universal HD.

NBC's Saturday-evening telecast — which featured three hours of highlights from the 24-hour global concert series to raise awareness of climate change — captured 2.7 million viewers. The event was also broadcast online at LiveEarth.MSN.com and on XM satellite radio.

Organizers for Live Earth, backed by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, were hoping live broadcasts on cable television and the Internet would reach up to 2 billion people. Concerts were held in London; Sydney, Australia; Tokyo; Shanghai, China; Johannesburg, South Africa; Hamburg, Germany; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and New Jersey and Washington.

Live Earth will send proceeds to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a nonprofit organization chaired by Gore. Figures for the money raised will be available later in the week.

2 billion vs. 19 million:

They were off by two orders of magnitude. About the same amount as they are off when estimating the human contribution to global warming.

SIX MINUTES of the entire concert qualifies one as a "viewer"?

Sheesh. I wonder what the REAL viewership was.

One of the vote-counts on the last “American Idol” finale was 70 million; more than three times the viewers of Gore the bore. I bet that final week on American idol, which had an “America Cares” charity operation running with it, also raised more money here in the U.S. alone, than did Gore’s world-wide venue.

But, let no one explain this to Gore. It’s great watching a real live joke that does not realize the fool that he is.

I think that all of the concert footage is available streaming online.

In a few years it may reach 100,000,000 views, which is the same as 2,000,000,000, because of the multiplier effect of righteousness and SMUG.

Right up there with the Million Man March and Million Mom march and the fact that, if we went by popular vote and counted dead people’s votes Algor would have won if he hadn’t conceded first.

I had a million man march in my living room last week. It was awesome! I almost ran out of guacamole!

My thoughts as well. Imagine how many listeners he could claim if he counted everyone who listens for 6 minutes!

I think the 19 million number only counts the electoral viewers, the popular viewership may well have been over 2 billion.

Sorry just trying to spin to make the Goracle feel better.

There is a recount in Florida where they are, right now, looking at partially pressed remote keys.

Good description of Al Gore and his followers brain power.
