Life is very cheap in China. Executing an agency head is for the media consumption of people in nations where, as the Chinese notice, life tends to mean much more. The execution doesn’t necessarily mean that the Chinese government gives one rip about the damage they do in foods and drugs, chemicals, etc. they care about keeping foreign investment and foreign exchange.

That’s my thought too.
It’s kinda entertaining in a cryptic sort of way though.

Heck, at least they didnt execute him by feeding him their tainted dog food. No, but it's an even-money bet that they billed his family for the bullet and then sold his organs.
And a decent chance they harvested (say) his kidneys before he died...without anaesthetic.
Pour encourager les autres.
NO cheers, unfortunately.

Was this for getting caught or for the crime itself? It was part of China's new anti-corruption campaign. The fact that he was the head of their version of the FDA is merely coincidental.

Hurts to be the fall guy for something in China.

His actions caused the deaths of 10 people at least. His acceptance of bribes was part of a scheme that killed people, threatened the public health.
He got what he deserved.

Well, they have to harvest the saleable organs first.

I’d love to see what Chinese justice would have to say about false accusations of rape, especially when perpetrated by a known prostitute.

China executed the former head of its food and drug watchdog on Tuesday for approving untested medicine in exchange for cash, the strongest signal yet from Beijing that it is serious about tackling its product safety crisis. Ya think?

We can't even execute child killers int this country. I wouldn't trade places with any of them, but on publi corruption, I'll vote for their system.
To: TheDoctorNoh
Give them a choice, the Chinese hanging or the Japanese suicide.

Theoretically speaking, Yan Jiangyang, thus far is at the top of her game. She's newly promoted as her predecessor has been executed. No one expects that this sort of promotion would result in the new comer beaming with joy. She's probably scared to death of failure and will tackle her new job with voracious tenacity (or die trying). Perhpas no one in the CCP envies her, but she'll have the complete support of those who want to live longer.
Remember that these Athiests belive that they live only one lifetime. That which shortens their natural life is "evil". When a corrupted official approves what kills the only life they've got, that official might as well be the devil incarnate.

One might call it the

that one should die for the many . . .
Gotta deflect closer scrutiny of everyone somehow.
