Can The House Buck The Gun Lobby? (New York Times Backs Tiahrt Amendment Repeal Alert)
New York Times ^ | 07/11/2007 | New York Times Editorial Board

Now is the time for Speaker Nancy Pelosi to deliver on her pledge to reverse the gun lobby’s pernicious handcuffing of law enforcement officials trying to track the flood of illegal firearms.

For years, police used the federal government’s extensive gun data files to trace firearms used in crimes from manufacture to retail purchase, laying bare the minority of unscrupulous dealers who abet the underworld. But four years ago, police access to the databank was cut off by the politically potent gun lobby’s many panderers in Congress.

The New York Times has sunk to new lows in lying about the Tiahrt Amendment. It wants it repealed on the grounds it handcuffs law enforcement officials in tracking down illegal guns. They buy Mayor Michael Bloomberg's anti-gun propaganda about it. The truth is exactly the reverse. The Tiahrt Amendment protects the CONFIDENTIALITY of gun trace investigations. The police have full access to this data. The only parties not allowed access are politicians with anti-gun agenda and the MSM which has been shown it can't be trusted to report on Second Amendment issues fairly. Its not the NRA Congress has passed the Tiahrt Amendment for as the New York Times falsely implies; its to protect American cops investigating gun crimes. But you would never know it from an editorial that attacks the NRA for helping to uphold the interests of America's gun owners and cops around the country. Another True Lie from the Newspaper Of Record.

No, I haven't. But they just get more brazen in pushing a liberal agenda, now that Congress is run by Democrats. Fortunately, they don't speak for the country.

They're really feeling their oats now. Meanwhile, Dennis Kucinich uses his campaign as a platform to advocate the prohibition of all private handgun ownership, following the familiar leftist tactic of using extremists to push the "spectrum" ever leftward and make proposals like these seem reasonable by comparison.

Better question: Can Democrat Presidential candidates buck their insane netroots?

The New York Times is honest. Democrats have to fake it, since the country doesn't buy their full-throated socialist platform.
