Baghdad on the Potomac

July 12, 2007

It's time for benchmarks and it is time to seriously consider a cutoff of funding. This quagmire has gone on for far too long, and the nation is suffering. We're referring to this incapable, riven, sectarian, promise-breaking U.S. Congress.

This 110th Congress demands accountability. It failed to deliver its "first 100 hours" agenda, passing just two bills in its first 100 days, one a continuing appropriations resolution left over from the 109th Congress, the other the NATO Freedom Consolidation Act of 2007. It has not "drained the swamp," as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised....snip

Strange, but we'd almost want to call this Congress "incapable of putting national interests ahead of sectarian score settling." What, we wonder, is needed to spur "politicians to take the steps toward national reconciliation that they have endlessly discussed but refused to act on?" We call for an immediate change of course....snip

This Congress has failed spectacularly to be the "most ethical Congress in history," without so much as a dent in the politics of influence in Washington, six months and 32,684 tummy-rubbing earmarks into the session, with lawmakers basking in the glad-handing with more than sufficient frequency to make the powerful, pungent appropriator Rep. Jack Murtha, Pennsylvania Democrat, seem too prescient by half when he lampooned ethics reform as "total crap." Congressional ethics retains its prominence of place near jumbo shrimp and military intelligence for world-class oxymorons.

With all these failures to attain reasonable benchmarks, it is particularly disturbing that Congress is now planning to take off the entire month of August.

Perhaps it is time for taxpayers to threaten credibly to cut off funding for this endless quagmire of a Congress if it fails by September to meet its benchmarks.

Sad but true. This Congress, led by GrannyNanny and Dingy Harry, is a complete and total disgrace. Granny should put on her headscarf and go blundering around in the mideast again, and Dingy should stick to his crooked Nevada land deals.

Let em go on their annual August vacation. The less time they're in session, the better.

No, Joe is in NM as a safe house( so journalists and lobbyists and pols aren’t seen) away from ears during the 08 election and her buildup

"...This quagmire has gone on for far too long, and the nation is suffering..."

An unbelievable lack of originality. Lib talking points, and they couldn't even be bothered to change the wording.

Precisely why they are called the "Dinosaur Media".

I kinda thought that was the point - use the leftist media's own words to show that their heroes are even worse than the conservatives were, at the same game.

Nope, I did not read the article, and...bit by my QUEST FOR EFFICIENCY AGAIN!

I have a theory...and it serves me well 95% of the time.

Liberals are so transparent and predictable, that one rarely needs to read more than a few sentences at most into their work to see exactly what their point is. They exude negativity to a degree as soon as they open their mouth or put pen to paper, the salient points just rush right out.

I am rarely tripped up, and when I am, it is most often by satire or sarcasm...:)

I guess I have to accept the hand slap in this case, but if I take into account the hundreds of hours I have saved by not having to pore over their liberal tomes...I guess I must accept the punishment...:)

I almost didn’t read it until I saw it was the Washington Times, not the Post. Since it was a Times article and was talking about quagmire I thought maybe they had gone over to the dark side and had to read the rest. Otherwise I would’ve been in your shoes. ;^)

Yes...see my post above, this is the price I occasionally pay (with chagrin) in my quest for efficiency.

I am on the money 95% of the time...I need to aim for Rush Limbaugh’s 99.9% of the time benchmark so I don’t get egg on my face as often...:)

"Let em go on their annual August vacation. The less time they're in session, the better."

Agreed. The nation needs a break from this never ending traitorous nation bashing and terrorist hugging this granny-lead congress is engaged in.

I'm sure media will keep up the nation bashing in their absence.

how do we invade a country for WMDs, not find any, use the excuse “oh no, we really came to ‘liberate you’”, bomb the bejesus out of the place, displace bagdad, displace the rest of iraq’s community & culture, remove a terrible and tyrannic leader who somehow kept the order within the 5 cultural areas: the Sunnis, Kurds, Shi’a, Assyrian, & Marsh Arabs - who now fight each other, commit acts of violence, and plant car bombs that kill our U.S. troops stationed overseas...reinstate a new government that the citizens must now follow (democracy works EVERYWHERE, right?) ...and suddenly everyone just wants to leave?? to “walk away” from it all...like it never happened...what is this, Vietnam II...??

I don’t have the answer to the dilemma, but I know that we’ve gotten our elbows in way to deep now, son...

The 109th Congress and the 110th Congress will both go down in history as the ruling elites that refused to protect their own country from terrorists sworn to kill us and for handing of the American southwest back over to Mexico. They are cowards and traitors every last one of them.
