Stage 5 - Thursday, July 12: Chablis - Autun, 182.5km
By Tim Maloney, European Editor (Cycling News)

Starting in the town famous worldwide for crisp white wine, after five days of racing in the 2007 Tour de France, stage 5 contains some serious racing on a winding, rolling parcours with eight categorized climbs. A break will certainly get away and in the second half of the stage, the road ascends to the windy roads of Morvan Plateau before a final ascent of the Cat. 3 Côte de la Croix de la Libération with eight kilometres to race, which could make the difference for the race winning move.

Climbs:
Km 39.5: Côte des Grandes-Châtelaines: 1.5km climb @ 6.7% avg. grade / 4th Cat.
Km 52.5: Côte de Domecy-sur-Cure: 1.3km climb @ 6.2% avg. grade / 4th Cat.
Km 58.5: Côte de Champignolles-le-Bas: 2.0km climb @ 6.5% avg. grade / 3rd Cat.
Km 86.5: Côte de Coulon: 1.0km climb @ 6.2% avg. grade / 4th Cat.
Km 98.5: Côte de Saint-Maurice: 3.0km climb @ 5.2% avg. grade / 3rd Cat.
Km 119: Côte de Château-Chinon: 2.5km climb @ 3.8% avg. grade / 4th Cat.
Km 135.5: Haut-Folin: 12.9km climb @ 3.7% avg. grade/ 2nd Cat.
Km 174: Côte de la Croix de la Libération: 3.4km climb @ 5.4% avg. grade / 3rd Cat.

Sprints:
Km 36: Avallon
Km 88: Montreuillon
Km 145: Bibracte-Mont-Beuvray

The riders will be ready for a glass or four of this at the end of today's stage:

do you know what kind of training program these guys do? Specifically.

I've got one or two from cycling magazine but was wondering how many hours and what specifically they do in order to do back to back to back centuries.

I'm just amazed at the fact that they averaged over 20 mph yesterday!!!

Seems to be an unusual amount of crashes this year. Or maybe it’s the same but wasn’t covered with the Armstrong/Landis excitement in the past.

It amazes me that all these winding tree covered roads are clean enough for these guys to race them as fast as they do.

That overshoot on that turn sucked. Took Cancellara with him I believe.

Did they find that guy (last years winner) guilty of doping? Did they take away his “crown”?

Floyd Landis. The buzz is that the ruling will come out tomorrow.

How do you know that?

The four announcers on Versus have been saying that — as speculation.

Cool. Thanks for your answers! I moved us into the Stage 5 thread.

It appears that they really did mistake how long the stage would last, then. I didn't think that was possible -- at least not to this extent. At the beginning of the broadcast, they were saying it would be 6 or 7 hours -- so I guess it took 9+?

(Why would race organizers put the longest stage at 4, if 4 is well known to be difficult already?)

Versus coverage was actually extended, but you probably only DVR'd the scheduled time.

Yes. The grid showed the end of the broadcast, and that's where TIVO quit. I began watching late that night, so it was too late to watch the evening coverage once I realized. I'm just going to switch to the evening condensed show. It's shorter, anyway.

Vino's my pick.
