Disregard subpoenas, Justice Dept. says
LA Times ^ | July 12, 2007 | By Richard B. Schmitt, Times Staff Writer

WASHINGTON — In a broadly worded legal opinion, the Justice Department has concluded that President Bush's former top lawyer, and possibly other senior White House officials, can ignore subpoenas from Congress to testify about the firings of U.S. attorneys.

The three-page opinion raises questions about whether the Justice Department would prosecute senior administration officials if Congress voted to hold them in contempt for not cooperating with the investigation into the firing last year of eight top prosecutors.

The opinion was prepared this week by the department's Office of Legal Counsel, in response to questions from former White House Counsel Harriet E. Miers, who was subpoenaed to testify today before the House Judiciary Committee. Miers told the panel in a letter faxed Tuesday night that she would not appear, citing the Justice memo and advice from the White House.

It’s about the 2008 election. The only thing the RATS in Congress care about at this point is convincing the public not to vote for any Republican on the ticket.

maybe DoD knows the letter of law, whereas Congressmen go after the severity of the charge, not the nature of the evidence.

It would be tempting to go before the ‘Rat congress and not answer their questions but give them a ration of s**t every time they ask a question.

Question: What was President Bush’s knowledge about the firing of the US Attorneys

Answer: You stinking democRATS don’t know your @ss from a hole in the ground. Further, if you were to ever decipher the difference.....

It would be fun.

I love this stuff. This Congress is fluttering away their time with meaningless crap such as this, and they have the lowest approval rating in history.

Nancy Pelosi and the Dims told the American people that they would change things for the better when they took over, but it’s actually gotten worse.

I look for the GOP to regain control in ‘08

Uncle Ted: What was President Bush’s knowledge about the firing of the US Attorneys?

Answer: What was the purpose of the neck brace you wore at Chappaquidick?

Harry Reid: What was President Bush’s knowledge about the firing of the US Attorneys?

Answer: How much did you make on that land flip in Las Vegas?

"This is not funny."

Actually, I think it is. The Administration is finally showing some spine.

Except people like Scooter Libby get stuck with milolion dollar legal bills and fines. What did that woman who testified yesssterday do to deserve that fate, or Harriet Myers. Patrick Leahy is a gangster.

See how much fun that would be...

YOu could just have them fuming...no lawyer needed to advise you on what to say, just have a list of counter questions.

Senator Kerry, what is the amount of wealth needed to get you to divorce your present wife?

Senator Kennedy, how what exactly were you doing with that young woman before you drowned her in Chappaquiddick.

Senator Schumer, what exactly qualifies you to be a senator excepting you career as a politician.

Senator Clinton, please explain fully how it was that you ransacked Vince Foster’s office after it was sealed by the Capitol Police.

It is just too tempting. The Drive-by media whores would be in a tizzy but the rest of us would be laughing our @sses off.

This is why I think President Bush should nominate Anne Coulter for Attorney General if Gonzalez leaves. She would do exactly this. What fun it would be. They don’t have to respond with questions. The answers need to be statements about each of these Democlowns backgrounds that they don’t want to talk about. I would love to get the popcorn concessions the Q&A. Maybe Fox will pick up on this and create a sitcom to replace that show that spoofs Colbert and Stewart.

People like Scooter Libby make this money back on three lectures, which have probably been scheduled already.
