Is it going to take a suitcase nuke in Manhattan to get this brain dead nation to awaken? Dear God I hope not.
Reminds me so much of a section in a John Barth novel (I forget which one) I read many years ago. A bunch of chickens are put into a covered aquarium with a sound asleep—and very sated—snake. Every once in a while, the snake wakes up, eats one of the chickens, and falls back to sleep. Meanwhile, the chickens cluck nervously for a while, but soon forget about the snake—until next time the snake gets hungry—and never understand their situation. Americans are reacting just like those chickens.
