[”MATHS: Personal finance, such as how to manage a bank account and work out credit card interest will be added to algebra, linear equations and ratios.”]

No, (and I realize this isn’t a tech board), but it’s more important to teach students how to handle a modern computer algebra system (CAS) e.g., Mathematica, Maple, MatLab.

Who, in this age, does Gauss-Jordan elimination by hand calculation to invert a matrix and/or solve a system of linear equations?

Personal fiance or how to manage a checking account should be let to another class.

Well...I am no mathematician, but I would think that while nobody would want or need to do those things by hand calculation, they must know how to do them by hand in order to understand them intimately enough to use them appropriately.

You sound like a mathematician...how do you feel about that aspect of it?

No one, but that doesn't mean students shouldn't learn how to do these things by hand.
