India makes climate change move
BBC ^ | 13 July 2007 | Sanjoy Majumder

India has taken the first steps towards developing a national plan on tackling the effects of climate change.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh chaired a meeting of top government officials and environmental experts which agreed to draft a national policy by October.

But the body has not set any targets to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions.

India and China are among the world's largest polluters and are coming under international pressure to agree to mandatory emission cuts.

My fiancee there right now working in rural medical clinics... she spent the last week doing amputations at a leper colony/clinic with no anaesthesia.

After a weekend off she’s heading back to another ‘hospital’ where they are dealing with a typhoid epidemic.

They have much bigger things to worry about than global warming! Like keeping the power on, and basic sewage systems and clean water.

Will it be similar to China's plan: good-sounding words without calling for actual implementation?

Not that Europe, Japan, and Kyoto have done such a great job fulfilling their greenhouse emissions obligations.

And not that there should be such protocols or treaties to reduce climate change which could hinder development and put people out of jobs.

Yes. Like that old South Park episode. “I’m a little bit country, and I’m a little bit rock-n-roll!”

But the body has not set any targets to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions.

This is the key sentence.

India is a long way from doing anything. They have barely started to pay lip service to the concept of global warming. They are years, maybe decades, from taking any action...and by that time, the hysterical left will be on to new targets, so India will be able to figure out what actions, if any, make sense.

“Looks like India is beginning to buckel to the international, junk sciance, push of global warming insanity.”

Are you denying global warming, or just mean that warming isn’t due to human activity?

Global Warming is real — the primary cause however can be debated.
