Hunter goes to bat for (Ollie) North with Contra slides (Duncan Hunter archives -

OLLIE'S SLIDE SHOW ... After two weeks of pressuring the White House, the State Department and the House and Senate Iran-Contra investigating committees, Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Coronado, has obtained a set of Marine Lt. Col. Oliver L. North's slides depicting Soviet influence in Nicaragua.

Hunter and a group of conservative Republican House members want to sponsor a slide show promoting the Contra cause on the House floor using North's photos and script.

During hearings earlier this month, the congressional committees allowed the former National Security Council staffer to give his pro-contra presentation, but refused to allow North to show the slides.

John Palafoutas, an aide to Hunter, said the White House and the State Department refused to release their copies of the slides, saying the photos belonged to North.

Hunter finally obtained them through Rep. Richard B. Cheney, R-Wyo., the ranking Republican on the House investigating panel.

A glitch developed when Hunter realized that House rules prevented slides from being shown on the House floor. To get around the rule, he had the 56 slides blown up into posters at a cost of $70 each. The cost will be shared by participating House members.

Plans call for a presentation on the House floor sometime this week. Each House member participating in the event will be given one poster and one minute to explain it. * * *

TAKE TWO ... If North's slides/posters don't do the trick, Hunter hopes to mold public opinion toward the Contras with a film of his own.

The congressman flew to Honduras last week with a San Diego-based camera crew to film interviews with Nicaraguan refugees who have fled the Marxist regime.

Palafoutas said Hunter may offer the film to Cox Cable in San Diego for use in one of its public service programs. While Hunter's expenses were paid for with government funds, the cost of the camera crew came out of Hunter's campaign treasury.

Palafoutas said Hunter may use some of the footage in upcoming campaign television spots. * * *

Sandinistas blundered into own mines: Hunter

Sandinista forces retreating from Honduran territory held by Contra units blundered into their own land mines, suffering heavy casualties, Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Coronado, who toured the war zone over the weekend, said today.Hunter, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, was traveling with a bipartisan group of congressmen. He said it was apparent that the swift dispatch of 3,200 U.S. troops last week came as a surprise to the Sandinista invasion forces.

This was kind of interesting, I will be supporting Thompson in the primaries but I just took this quiz and of all the current declared candidates, my views match up most with Hunters. I love these things.

I took the test and guess what? Duncan Hunter, although I really didn’t need to take the test because I was supporting him anyway.

Everyone says a Congressman can’t win. I don’t believe that. I’ve never been more behind a candidate, ever. I kind of feel it in my bones that he is what we need right now. I feel he is one of the very few that actually know government and he is a true patriot. It is so refreshing to have someone who actually thinks the USA is great and good. It touches me because that is the way I was raised. Warts and all, we are a GREAT country.

No Vietnam vet has ever been president either. It doesn’t mean they can’t.

“I took the test and guess what? Duncan Hunter, although I really didn’t need to take the test because I was supporting him anyway.”

I did it for fun, since my (soon-to-be) candidate wasn’t in it. I truly like Hunter, and I agree on an awful lot of what he stands for.
