President Bush held a press conference Thursday trying to persuade Americans to hang in there on Iraq. The president has a very tough road on that one.
All the polls show most Americans do not believe the war is going well and want to wind it down, feeling the effort is not worth much more American blood and treasure.
The president's argument for sustaining the war is largely theoretical and he is correct: A defeat in Iraq would harm the United States and could lead to a greater conflict down the road.
But there comes a time when enough's enough. The U.S. military did not lose the Vietnam War, the country just became exhausted by it and a deal was made to get out of there. Same thing is happening in Iraq. After four years many Americans are just sick of it.
Doesn't help the Iraqi government is incompetent and the people themselves largely ungrateful. ...
Iraq remains a huge stone around America's neck.
And that's The Memo.

BOR’s been waving the white flag for a long time.
Bill O’Reilly is a jackass. My personal opinion is I am sick and tired of our guys having to fight a PC war. If we took the gloves off and didn’t have the media and our own government accusing them of war crimes, watching their every move, accusing them of being Nazis and grandstanding by being arm chair quarterbacks we’d be doing fine.
He couldn’t be more wrong, not that he’d ever admit it. This “memo” sounds like Bill O’Blowhard relied on the first media hit pieces on the report, and didn’t bother to wait around to see what the truth was.
Hey, Bill, how bout a nice steaming class of STFU?
Those morons in the Iraqi parliament had better start acting like humans and start doing the difficult job of governing. If not, get out the nooses and see if they respond better then.
Panthermom, you are exactly right! Another thing that makes me want to say “enough is enough” are the media’s constant drumbeat against this war, from slandering our brave troops to sliming anyone who supports it, and then there’s the actual misreporting that never seems to stop. And Bill O’R is one of them.
“and the American people are sick of it”
And that is the most damning part of this whole affair. In a five year war that has less casaulties than single battles of other wars, the “American” people are ready to fold.
But then this was inevitable in a way. The left set out to from the outset to undermine this war. It developed phrases like “chickenhawk” to undermine and demonize any support of it. It did the old trick from Vietnam of reporting on every single casualtie causing incident, and then declared they were “honoring” the troops by doing so. Make no mistake, when we lose Iraq (and leaving is losing under these circumstances) the left will have won a victory which will hurt this country for decades to come (assuming it ever recovers)
You are correct. It has been an anti-Bush media-run war.
Not really, Bill. True Americans are sick of YOU!
No, Bill, what I’m sick of is the media that’s been pushing for defeat since day one of this war. They’re creating their own conclusion. Sickening.
Another person who knows what Americans are thinking.
hooray for our side.
Hey tired Bill...I hope you devote an entire show to address one little question...what will happen to the thousands of purple finger Iraqis if we leave?...or is that not your problem?
Yeah, it would be nice if O’Reilly could support our soldiers’ efforts to win the war. I realized a long time ago that BOR does not have core values. He gets out in front of whatever he thinks will get him viewers. Now he believes what the liberal media says about Americans “just wanting to get out.” I can imagine what would have happened if right in the middle of WWII we had “just gotten out.” Yeah, that would have solved everything.
We need to withdraw from Iraq —

via Tehran.
So now he adds to that generalization, that president Bush is right but blah blah everyone is bored.
Can't get much more truly banal than that.
Oh and the part about people got tired of Vietnam so we made a deal to get out and lose it, let's just do that here - is pathetic morality, strategy and history.
The fact that liberals have the audacity to consider O’Reilly a conservative tells a person all one needs to know about the left.
