The Judge was dead wrong; the sentence was excessive and the President was absolutely right to call it that.

Sentence was not merely excessive, but simply wrong. Then again, so was the verdict, the persecution, the investigation and the political perception fed by the same media that were also the main participant, the witness, the accuser and the commentator of so-called “Plame affair”.

Obviously, there is far more than one “D.C. Madame” in nation’s capital.

The thing I keep wondering in all of this is why the White House plays along with all of this. Are they really as hapless and inept as they appear?
They keep engaging in these battles the Dems and the media by first accepting the initial premise of the charges and then offering flimsy, ineffectual arguments against those charges rather than point out UP FRONT that the fundamental basis of those battles is bogus. Why?
Is this a rope-a-dope situation, sucking the Libs into useless skirmishes that they know will never go anywhere? Or is the Bush White House really so utterly inept?
The real down side to all of this is that, while this might keep the Libs occupied with endless feel good crusades against the evil Bush machine, it also creates the impression of invidious purpose on the part of the administration in the mind of the public and IMHO that is one of the big reasons the Republicans lost the congress in the last election. In the world of public opinion, what LOOKS real IS real.
