I read somewhere that Lamar Alexander will be retiring to become president of some university. Same with John Warner, too. Why not throw some stones, while leaving they seem to be thinking.

As Robb7s link indicates, the word is that Lamar is in discussions to take the presidency at Vanderbilt University here in Tennessee.  I think this whole Neville Chamberlain act is to firm up his bona fides so that he's acceptable for that job.  Even in a state dominated by yellow dog Democrats (they'll vote for a yellow dog if that's the nominee on the Democrat ticket) there's not a lot of sympathy for cheese eating surrender monkey types.

After  his performance this morning on CBS FTN there's no way in hell he gets re-elected.  I don't think he'd win the nomination in a primary fight, either.  I've sent an email to that effect to his office, enouraging him to take the Vandy job, if offered, and to plan on writing books if it's not.  Otherwise he should stay in Washington and try to become a lobbyist.
