Webb: This is not a war (in Iraq), it’s a botched occupation.

Webb now using a Biden technique...I have been saying for years...

So Senator “I served in the Reagan Administration”, while the US voters face record high gas prices, a slowing Economy and a still unresolved Immigration crises you want to continue with completely useless grandstanding for the Politically Corrupt Media about their Bete Noir, Iraq.

Wonder how all those “betrayed Conservatives” in Virginia who fired George Allen (life time American Conservative Union rating 92%) for this Socialist DC insider clown feel about their “hero” now.

Actually, though I probably don't agree with his thinking, I actually agree with this statement.  The "war" was over in three weeks.  The US military, under the brilliant leadership of Donald Rumsfeld and his cadre of senior officers, executed one of the most audicious and successful war plans in history.  They then turned to the diplomats, particularly our State Department and the much vaunted UN, and expected them to handle the post Saddam era with limited logistic and defensive support from the military.

That was the first mistake.

The second mistake was when the diplomats stepped on their crank in a big way allowing them to turn the problem back over to the military and then letting those weenies walk off to the sidelines where they would continue to throw stones.  The US military is designed to kill people and break things.  When you deploy that force but turn the design of their mission over to a bunch of REMF lawyers to set the rules of engagement you have a pre-ordained disaster.

Patraeus understands this and his counter insurgency program is a very different thing than what has come before.  That's why the "defeat now" Dhimmicrats are trying to stampede a premature surrender.  They know that he's succeeding and they realize that if they wait for the September report there's a good chance that they'll be exposed for the Quislings that they are.
