Is this a joke? China built a VERY effective wall that kept the animals at bay for hundreds of years.

That was my stumbling block as well. From what I understand, China’s wall was pretty dang effective.

No, it didn’t. All it did was make my people ride around the ends. The most it ever did was stop local banditry. It never, ever stopped a large invading force - or, for that matter, a smaller, determined one.
And we dislike being called animals, thank you.
And, by the way, I’m not saying that we shoudn’t build the wall, just saying that the Great Wall wasn’t successful in its stated aim.
It did something else spectacularly well, but that’s a topic for another time.
