Republicans 2008: F. Thompson 25%, Giuliani 24% July 14, 2007 (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Fred Thompson is barely holding on to the top spot in the race for the Republican Partys presidential nomination in the United States, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 25 per cent of respondents would vote for the actor and former Tennessee senator in a 2008 primary.
Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is a close second with 24 per cent, followed by former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Arizona senator John McCain with 12 per cent each. Support is lower former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee and Kansas senator Sam Brownback.
On Jul. 12, Giuliani discussed his views on economic policy, saying, "The global economy is a wonderful thing for America. America is a brand after alla great brand. (...) We should do more business with (Middle East countries) and engage them more."
In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. In November 2004, Republican George W. Bush earned a second term after securing 286 electoral votes from 31 states. Democratic nominee John Kerry received 252 electoral votes from 19 states and the District of Columbia.
Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.

The only country we should do business with in the Middle East is Israel. The rest can go screw themselves.
Interesting that Brownback made a showing this month. Very disappointing campaign from him, though.
You say Ron Paul is irrelevant, but I am really curious why that poll is missing 24%. 27+23+12+11+3=76.
Paging ElectricStrawberry to tell us about how national polls don’t mean a thing....unless they showed Romney ahead.

Can’t help but wonder how high Fred Thompson’s percent will be when he declares. He seems to be running a intelligent savvy race - will be interesting to see how someone who understand PR does.
Can’t help but wonder if Newt will throw his hat into the ring? And how that might affect the percentages?
Yeah, Fred Thompson is “barely holding on to the top spot”...without having formally announced (yet) nor spending a dime.
Darned good showing, I’d say, bump!
If his support drops he can always start campaigning
