The reason Rivera is on the air these days is because Roger Ailes put him there. Ailes has many accomplishments in his career dating back to his service to Reagan, his production of Rush Limbaughs tv show and his stewardship of FNC. But, all of these pluses combined do not balance out the negative points he gets for putting rivera on the air.
Jerry Rivers is in the “No Fly” zone at my house. Whenever I view him on TV, there is an instant channel change.

He's a walking reminder of some of the reasons why people have such a negative opinion of 'journalists' and why the market share of TV 'news' and 'news'papers has been declining so dramatically over the past decade. When people are given a choice, they will usually spend their time with intellectually-beneficial pursuits over those activities which only serve to inflame passions. Hence the rise of talk radio and the blogosphere.
