If the council supports moving forward with 287(g), ultimately Waukegan police could obtain authority to begin deportation proceedings for illegal residents convicted of violent crimes.

That's something that many in the Hispanic community say would go too far.

Jose Guzman, a leader of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement in Waukegan, said various activist groups plan to protest against the council's vote beginning at 5 p.m.

Guzman said he expects anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000 people to show up for a nonviolent demonstration.

Have I told anyone lately how much I despise Chicago...

Was just there - they hate kids, families, and people with cars.

How handy. With 3,000 to 5,000 of these perps showing up the police can start deportations with THEM.

Who’s ‘they’? Chicago is a world class city. One of the cleanest certainly.

This is WAUKEGAN, a city 40 miles north of Chicago. It’s just being reported in a Chicago newspaper. The headline is misleading.

And the actual headline of this article is ‘Immigration rally in Waukegan’. Waukeegan is a dump that’s closer to Wisconsin than Chicago.

MrB probably means he tourist including people from the burbs. It’s summer in Chicago, 10-12 weeks long, when everyone and their grandma toddles into town...including criminals.

I'm curious, why would you chandg the Sun-Times headline from Immigration Rally in Waukegan, not even in the same county as Chicago, and closer to Wisconsin, to Chicago, the new LA.

Makes no sense at all.

Sounds to me like Waukegan is moving a bit closer to Arizona’s position, enforcement not sanctuary.

I thought Cook County has a sanctury policy which would render Waukegan’s proposal moot.
