Hart will run to regain 4th District seat
Pittsburgh Tribune -Review ^ | July 14, 2997 | David Brown

Melissa Hart wants a rematch. Hart, the Bradford Woods Republican who lost her House seat in November to Democratic U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire, told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Friday that she's definitely running in 2008. "Everywhere I go people are stopping me and asking me to run," Hart said. "The new majority in Congress talked big and has produced basically nothing." Hart, 45, was swept from her 4th Congressional District seat in a backlash of anti-Republican sentiment among voters that gave Democrats a majority in both chambers of Congress. Altmire, 39, of McCandless, won with 52 percent of the vote to Hart's 48 percent.

I am not from there but I understand this is good news. I would appreciate comment from some of you locals.

Hart’s district is just north of where I live, but word on the street is that she was a bit of a RINO, and that Jason Altmire won by running to the right of her.

Again I am not from there but I am looking at some ADA and ACU rating and she seems to be quite a solid Conservative. I only have 2002 and 2001 and she scored 0 and 5 for the ADA. And for us she scored 96 and 88 for the ACU. Of course I do not have the more recent years, but unless there was a change she appears to be as good as gold and no one’s Rino.

I used to live there, in 2000 when Hart beat a listless Democrat, I think his name was Van Horne. She struck me as moderate-conservative, business-friendly in an, if i recall, Jack Kemp manner.
The district has a lot of Catholic Democrats in smaller factory towns along the rivers, including the also-listless congressman she replaced, Klink, when he lost badly to Santorum.

Altmire, amply aided by money from moveon.org, labor union thugs, etc., saturated the airwaves in the Pittsburgh area with his slimy commercials full of lies about Melissa Hart. Hart responded not at all that I ever saw.

She's probably not the most conservative rep out there, but she's no RINO and Altmire didn't run to the right of ANYBODY. Altmire's a socialist twerp who should be nothing but a one-termer, but there still may be enough elderly FDR-worshiping union morons around here to keep him around.

If Hart is the best we can do, so be it, but I'd prefer a far more aggressive conservative candidate.

Before she runs again it would be wise of her to learn why she got beat, and take steps to correct the problem.

You may be right; I was just going by what I've heard Jim Quinn say a few times.

I heard about her intentions today from two of my lib co-workers. They read a quote of hers in the Beaver County Tims in which she was purported to have referred to Altmire as "the guy who's in there now." That put them in a snit for some reason.

Lynn Swann has been mentioned as well — he won the district (although losing statewide) in his race for governor.

Poor Missy refused to debate Congressman Altmire until a few days before the election. She was tricked into debating by some hacks on KDKA just trying to stir up a good story. The debate showed that Missy's strategy of avoiding the issues was a good one even though it luckily failed to retain her in office for 2 more years. Missy lacks speaking skills to successfully debate on radio or TV.

Missy was a rubber stamp for Bush and everything bad connected with the R party. She supported the Iraq war without question, rubberstamped the Bush tax cuts, and did everything else to antagonize her constituents in Murrysville and elswhere in the 4th District. The incumbent Congressman, Mr. Altmire, is an odds-on favorite for re-election so long as Missy's spending advantage is no greater than it was in the last election.

“Jason Altmire won by running to the right of her.”

MOST of the new Democrats won by running to the right of thier opponents, we lost 3 seats in Indiana to that.

But, THE FACTS show they have done ANYTHING but what they promised to, and instead have let the Socialist traitors run rampant.

Not sure what street you're listening to these days?
Melissa was labeled a "bushbot" by her opponent and the press. It was a nasty and concerted campaign against her with national money coming in to help Altmire.
I don't know if she can win because the Beaver Valley area of the district is overwhelmingly Democrat.
She's a good person and was a good rep. when I lived in the district.
Lynn Swann might stand a chance with the "Steeler Morons" out in Beaver County but Melissa would be a better Representative.

Yes, and Missy called Mr. Altmire a "liar" when he accurately pointed out that Missy voted along with Bush 95% of the time. The voters are entitled to know why Missy used the L-word against her opponent while her rightwing R supporters worship her for being a loyal Bushbot.

She’s no RINO, but if social conservatives delved into her personal life, they’d probably abandon her in droves, even though she’s been a loyal congressman.

Altmeyer is stuffed shirt, the rematch will be interesting.
