A crazed gunman was shot dead near Governor "plea bargain" Bill Ritter's office in Denver's City Capitol around 2:10pm today. The man brandished a handgun and said, "I am the emperor, I am here to take control of city government." As the man lay dead on the floor, tours of the building continued for nearly forty minutes; many tourists and children saw the body. "It was like business as usual," said reporter. The building was not evacuated immediately, in fact many lawmakers were not escorted to their vehicles for an hour. There is no metal detector in the State Capitol and anybody can go anywhere. The gunman (he appeared to be a white ma from what was aired on the television) was dressed in a tuxedo and asked around where the governor was in the building. The governor's office was currently under construction and he was located in a make shift office across the building. According to reporters, he was hiding under his desk when the gunman was shot by one of his agents. A reporter was amazed that she was able to stand 20 from the dead body for so long. She said she normally would have to be reporting from blocks away in circumstances like this. Plea bargain Bill Ritter will not say whether a metal detector will be installed immediately or not. "Well have to wait and see what the investigation says."
Sounds like DU lost a member.
Looks like someone was prepared.
“Move to the right....move to the right...step over the body...move to the right...”
What kind of society have we become?
Wait - the other story said the Gov wasn't even in the building. Now he's cowering under his desk?
Were they concerned that the emperor would come back to life and start shooting again? Maybe someone had a "gut feeling" that the Archduke was waiting in the parking garage for people headed to their cars.
It's a good thing Corzine's security detail wasn't driving the desk...he could have been in real danger.
Hmmm... the unarmed Governor was hiding beneath his desk, while an Armed bodyguard defended himself and the unarmed Governor. If the bodyguard had been away, or had been shot in the line, wouldn’t the Governor have been better off if he too was armed, instead of hiding beneath a desk?
reminds me of a college somewhere...
As opposed to the society of a century ago, where people would have taken their kids to watch this man publicly hanged as a form of free public entertainment and brought snacks?
