SAN DIEGO -- An illegal immigrant who ran from a crash that killed his 9-year-old son was is in jail Sunday and facing multiple felony charges, including drunken driving.
Marcos Munoz-Sanchez, 33, was booked for several felonies in connection with the accident on westbound Interstate 8 near Texas Street about 1:30 a.m. yesterday, according to California Highway Patrol officers.
Alex Munoz, who was a third-grader at Linda Vista Elementary School, was declared dead at the scene of the crash. The boy was asleep in the front seat when his father crashed into the back of a pickup truck parked on the shoulder of the road, according to the CHP.
Muñoz-Sanchez, who is in the United States illegally and is not a licensed driver, got out and ran, a local newspaper reported.
The man's brother, Raul Munoz, who also had been drinking, picked up Munoz-Sanchez and took him home, where police were waiting for him, the paper reported.
Munoz-Sanchez was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, hit and run and drunken driving. Bail was set at $300,000. The brother also was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving
“Since such a large # of these criminals are violent gang members, and many others have some connection to members of these gangs, I would say that theyd be going VIOLENTLY”
COUNT on it!!
I'm sure one of the do-gooders on FR will be along shortly and tell everyone not to bring up the driving and drinking part.
No he left his drunk brother with him.
He didn’t need his anchor baby human shield to run away, so he took off. The anchor baby would have only slowed him down, so adios muchachito!
It is a great city. Guess you can’t say the same about yours and why you don’t list it.
While San Diego Rep. Duncan Hunter Authored the Border Fence bill, the AZ Senators and others there vote for amnesty and could care less about the border fence.
What a sick evil creep...
He didnt look after his little boy?
so much for Family Values..
His anchor baby is only a financial arrangement for him and not important in any other way...
Geraldo will weep over the po’ lil ol’ innocent victim “immigrant” who lost his son because of the racist, bigotted, anti-immigration folk and the lack of AMNESTY Bill....
I live in San Diego!!!!!!!!!
Hmmmm.... what a dilemma for the MSM which is usually so busy writing sob stories about families “ripped apart” by deportations. How are they going to spin this so that we feel sorry for the “immigrant” who is just being harassed by law enforcement?

I am a native here of many decades and enjoy living in the heart of the city.
I find most people who don’t like it here live in the burbs. I enjoy a large city.
I’ve posted several times before that it has become standard practice in most if not all of CA for an illegal to get out and run from even the smallest of fender-benders.
Given that he’s an illegal, and that he’s a boozer, I’d bet big money that this isn’t the first time he’s run from an accident he caused while drunk.
At this point it was probably just a reflex action. He might have been running for a half mile before it occurred to him that this time he had abandoned his dying child just like his sixth or seventh $500 junker.
p.s.: don’t get me wrong — the guy is a POS, squared.
I'm going to post the article that you quoted from. IMO, they down-played the boy's death and then listed every excuse in the book for the father's behavior.
Family: Dad Who Left Son To Die Feared Deportation
SAN DIEGO -- A family member tells NBC 7/39 that a man in the United States illegally left his son to die because he was afraid of being deported.
Marcos Munoz Sanchez, 33, faces felony charges in connection with the incident. His son, Alex Munoz, 9, died early on Saturday morning. Munoz was a third-grader at Linda Vista Elementary School.
The boy's mother is devastated by his death.
"Why did God take my boy?" Alex's mother said in Spanish, weeping. "He wasn't a bad boy."
Munoz Sanchez has been in the country illegally for 12 years, according to his family. His sister-in-law Erica Herrara said on Saturday that he was driving without a license and was fearful that he would be sent back to Mexico. She also told NBC 7/39 that the family is grieving and that this is no time to question the father's actions.
"What I feel is that he was not thinking that the child would die, and, rather than get caught by police and immigration, he thought it would be easier to just run away, have the mom go get the kid and then come together," Herrera said.
Officers said Munoz Sanchez's pickup truck hit a truck that was parked in the breakdown lane on Interstate 8 near Texas Street in Mission Valley. Authorities said he left the scene, leaving Alex in the car. The child later died.
Officials with the California Highway Patrol said they arrested Munoz Sanchez for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run. They also said that more charges may be pending.
According to investigators, Munoz Sanchez was located later in a vehicle with his brother, who was also arrested. His brother faces charges of misdemeanor driving under the influence and driving without a license.
The child's mother said her son told her they were going to Burger King and that was the last she heard from him. Herrerra said that the boy's mother was beyond comforting.
"That's not going to be possible because, you know, her heart is broken," Herrera said. "It's just very sad."
A spokeswoman for an immigrant-rights groups told NBC 7/39 that Munoz Sanchez's action raises an important issue facing many immigrants in the United States.
"We can not condone this kind of behavior," says Christian Ramirez of American Friends Services Committee. "But there's a whole lot of fear because the lines between local police and federal agencies have become very, very blurred the last few years."
Munoz Sanchez is being held on $300,600 bail. He is due in court on Wednesday.
Way to go you stupid woman, blame God, anybody but the jerk responsible.
SEND THEM HOME. We've got enough enabling stupid Americans.
Where's the fence?
Wrong! God was not driving drunk. God did not smash a truck into another vehicle. God did not run away, leaving your anchor baby to die. And God did not stand idly by, allowing your drunk mate to drive away with your meal ticket. Now go home.
San Diego county jail does participate in the program with ICE to screen all inmates for immigration violations. So they aren’t a sancutuary city..
If CA and San Diego would resume stop and check for license, registration and insurance it would be a great protection for all of us. Most of the victims of illegal, unlicensed, and uninsured drivers are innocent law abiding citizens.
These parents should also be charged with child abuse..driving your kid drunk, unlicensed and uninsured qualifies?
His brother who picked him up was also drunk with no license. My bet is that neither has insurance. Is that a crime in California? Since it’s only a misdemeanor driving under the influence, he will probably be unleashed on the public again as well.
One of your beloved little mexican tomato pickers had a little ..er...lets say whoopsie.........
I tried to find an article of a crime by an American more despicable and I just couldnt find one....
I am surprised that you and other tancredobots, given your rhetoric, would not be happy that there is one less Mexian in America.
You all make me want to puke on how you all use the tragic death of a nine year old to make a cynical and etinically animistic politcal point.
You all are no better than bill clinton when he did his blood dance over the tragedy at Columbine.
