WICHITA, Kansas, July 16, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A three day prayer siege and peaceful protest began this weekend in Wichita, home of the notorious abortionist George R. Tiller and the largest late-term abortion mill in America.

Saturday kicked off the first day of the "Wichita Awakening," as over 500 people gathered in front of Tiller's abortion mill for a vigil of prayer and begged God to end abortion. Among those present was Norma McCorvey, the former plaintiff "Roe" from the original Roe v. Wade case, who became a pro-life Christian in 1995.

During the vigil, President of Faith and Action Reverend Rob Schenck addressed participants, saying, "All human suffering is tragic, but when you understand these are babies who will cry at birth, who are fully formed and ready to be born, it's so much more tragic." He continued, "What Tiller does is a national shame. Now he's flouting the law against partial-birth abortions and law enforcement turns the other way."

After a weekend of prayer and peaceful protest, hundreds of young people met in front of the Womens' Health Care Services today. Some placed red tape across their mouths with the words "Life" written on them. Others lay on the pavement in the fetal position with chalk outlines around their bodies in imitation of a murder investigation scene. While some prayed or read their Bibles, still others tried to persuade women not to have abortions.

Operation Rescue, whose headquarters are located in Wichita, hosted the event that was also supported by The Cause. The Cause is part of a massive prayer revival effort called "God's Summer of Love" tour, a Christian response to the 1967 "Summer of Love" that brought in a culture of "free" sex, drugs, abortion, corrupt music and alcohol forty years ago. Hundreds of the Wichita participants came from Tennessee where they had attended The Call's 100,000-strong prayer revival rally last weekend (see http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2007/jul/07070907.html).

Operation Rescue President Troy Newman told LifeSiteNews.com that there has been a "really sweet spirit of prayer and supplication" during The Awakening, as people call upon God to end abortion and close the Women's Health Care center, owned by Mr. Tiller. He also noted that the event has received no coverage from the secular media. "I can't tell you the last time we had that many people in front of the abortion clinic," he said, but there has "literally been a media black-out."

Newman continued, "This generation will bring in a new Christian culture of life, turned back to God in restoration, repentance and spiritual revival. The focus of this event has been turning the tide against abortion. We are praying to God for a time when Mr. Tiller goes to jail."

"He's still committing abortions; however, we're hoping and praying that those days will be numbered and he will soon be behind bars. We feel that the momentum is building, and young people keep saying over and over again that although Wichita is a spiritual stronghold for the enemy, they feel that that stronghold is breaking."

Wichita Abortionist Tiller "the baby killer", who is presently facing 19 criminal charges, has been allowed to continue performing abortions. In a Sunday press release, Newman commented, "What other person accused of 19 criminal acts is allowed to continue them while attorneys file delay after delay? We need God's intervention to break through the web of corruption that continues to surround and protects Tiller. As well as repentance and revival, we are praying for justice."

Tonight participants will be gathering at the Mid-American Indian Center for a final Praise and Worship concert to end the Wichita Awakening, which is scheduled to run from 7 PM to midnight.
