Hundreds of Pro-Life Advocates Gather for Kansas Abortion Center Protest

Wichita, KS (LifeNews.com) -- Hundreds of pro-life advocates gathered on Sunday night for a protest at the abortion business of late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller. He has been charged with 19 misdemeanors for violating state laws that require more than one doctor to sign off on an abortion done after the baby is viable.

The pro-life advocates gathered to pray for an end to abortion and for closure of the site of alleged illegal late-term abortions.

They also remembered the death of Kristin Gilbert, a 19 year-old mentally disabled girl from Texas who died after a botched abortion there two years ago.

Attendees braved high heat and humidity to attend at speech led by Concerned Women for America President Wendy Wright, who flew in from Washington, DC to join other pro-life advocates.

Normal McCorvey, the former "Roe" of Roe v. Wade, joined Wright in calling for a speedy prosecution of Tiller and a closure of his abortion practice.

A group of 570 mostly young people gathered Sunday evening at the Wichita Awakening to accept the challenge from McCorvey. She encouraged those born after the 1973 Supreme Court decision should partner with her generation to see an end to abortion.

Despite the charges, Tiller is expected to continue doing late-term abortions today.

Following the Sunday event, another 300 people, most wearing red cloth tape printed with the word "LIFE" over their mouths, surrounded the Women's Health Care Services abortion business.

About a dozen young people from a California youth group laid down on the sidewalk in the fetal position surrounded by chalk lines.

"Those gathered here today are expressing broken hearts for the lives that are needlessly and brutally killed, and are beseeching the Heavens for mercy for the innocent victims and justice for the perpetrators," said Troy Newman, the head of Operation Rescue.
