The situation in Japan is much worse than has been previously reported. Thousands are homeless and reports indicate that shelters are full with some people sleeping in the streets.
TEPCO officials have been slow to release information regarding the true damage to the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant.
Current reports indicate 9 fatalities, 800 homes destroyed in Nigata alone and 9,000 homeless.
Three nuclear power plants are offline with no restart time announced.

How soon will US tax dollars be rebuilding the plant?

it revealed later on Monday night that 1,200 liters of radioactive water had sloshed into the sea from its Kashiwazaki-Kariwa plant in Niigata. Godzilla warnings have been issued to all costal towns.

“Tokyo Electric Power Co. said a total of 50 cases of malfunctioning and trouble had been found at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant since Mondays magnitude 6.6 quake, which killed at least nine people and left 13,000 homeless.
...
The company said they were still inspecting the plant, which shut down automatically after the quake, and further problems could emerge.”

Darn. I was hoping this was a report of Japan testing its own nuclear weapons.

This is pretty standard when a serious earthquake happens. Takes at least 2-3 days for the real news to get out. I remember being in the San Fernando earthquake (1971) and the news reports said that it was just a minor quake. We were without running water for a week. Go figure.

So I suppose those that are homeless will be coming here, right? Hey, we have PLENTY of room for them.

"Three nuclear power plants are offline with no restart time announced." Your right, the media is not reporting this.
Some say Tokyo & Yokohama are long over due for a repeat of the Great Kanto quake.

The good news is, this is happening in Japan. Which means they’ll have it fixed as soon as is humanly possible, and we won’t have to pay for it. The Japanese are extremely efficient...of course everyone is looking efficient compared to our bloated federal monster.
