Bizarre String Of Incidents Unfold After Standoff

(CBS) ARLINGTON, Tex. Texas police arrested a woman after a six-hour standoff Monday. Eleven hours later, the woman’s domestic partner had also been arrested and the FBI, Lewisville and Arlington bomb squad units were one scene.

According to police, it all started just after midnight on the 1000 block of Wembley Road. That’s where police say Aisha Abdul-Rahman Hamad lives with her domestic partner, Kimberly Asma Al-Homsi, and their two adult sons.

When police arrived, they immediately demanded neighbors to turn off their porch lights. They had seen an infrared beam coming from the women’s house and were worried someone might have a night-vision scope on a gun.

During the standoff, police say Hamad fired a paintball gun at an officer.

Six hours later, police say it seemed as though Hamad would surrender peacefully. But instead, officers say she inexplicably charged at them and started fighting. That’s when they used a stun gun to subdue Hamad and end the standoff.

Hamad was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and was sent to JPS to undergo psychiatric treatment. According to police, Hamad had also assaulted Al-Homsi with a knife.

After arresting Hamad, police came back to the house with a search warrant. They found lots of ammunition and “things used in other types of devices,” said Stephen Lea with the Arlington Fire Department.

Two suspicious packages were also found inside the house. The Arlington bomb squad, using a robot, detonated both. The contents of the packages are undergoing analysis.

Police then turned their attention to Al-Homsi, who was dressed in Muslim robes and camouflage. She was arrested on an illegal weapons charge.

When asked to empty her pockets, large amounts of cash poured out. She gave her son a hug before entering police custody.

Neighbors say they have been suspicious of the two women for months.

“We don’t let our girls out,” said Bill Taylor, a resident of the neighborhood. “Coming in the front yard has become kind of a dangerous thing, or it seems to be. You just don’t know what’s going to happen.”

The women are no strangers to trouble with the law. In March, Dallas police questioned them after they were seen using binoculars to watch flights at Love Field.

The pair told officers they were watching the planes for entertainment. They also claimed they were victims of racial profiling.

At the time of the Love Field incident, Al-Homsi was on probation for making a terroristic threat. In December 2005, she waved a fake hand grenade at a motorist. A judge put her on probation for two years.
