When I was in school back in the dark ages, the 1950’s and 1960’s, my homerooms started each day with a devotion and a prayer. We had a meeting in the auditorium every six weeks to sing songs and listen to a speaker who was usually the Church of Christ minister. He had a way with teenagers. We were not forced to do anything and everyone took part. We sure did not have all of the problems that teens have today. We had guidance from the adults we came into contact with.

“We were not forced to do anything and everyone took part.”

And in my IMO, that was wrong. It WAS forced, it’s just that the Jews and agnostics were afraid to say anything then.
