Democratic Death Wish

By R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. Published 7/19/2007 12:08:01 AM

WASHINGTON -- It looks like a death wish to me. The Democrats' recent all-night debate to confect legislation for pulling our troops out of Iraq immediately if not sooner suggests that they are, en masse, afflicted with a death wish -- and if their retreat gets more of our troops killed while transforming Iraq into bloody anarchy, they do not seem to care. Hysteria has seized them. Not long ago most of them were prepared to give General David Petraeus's new strategy a chance. After all, the Senate returned him to Iraq by an 81 to 0 vote. Now the Democrats want the general to begin a retreat even before tendering his agreed upon September report -- a death wish, I say.

The evidence is that the American people are watching this Congress and what they see they do not like. According to a recent Zogby poll, this Democrat-controlled Congress is now more unpopular than President George W. Bush, who, incidentally, will not be seeking reelection. Maybe many of these Democratic solons plan to retire too. According to the Zogby poll, 83% of the American people say the Democratic Congress is doing only a fair to poor job. Just 66% hold such a sour view of the President. In fact, this Democrat-controlled Congress is even more unpopular than the Republican-controlled Congress that it replaced. On its deathbed the Republican-controlled Congress had but a 23% approval rating. Today's Democrats have a 14% approval rating. I say death wish!

What makes this all the more bizarre is that General Petraeus's new strategy seems to be working..

The Democrats have put themselves out on a limb. They don't like their country, they don't appreciate the job the military is doing and they don't have any uplifting vision of hope to offer the American people. Thanks to a media that always fawns upon them, they have no idea how they look and sound to average Americans. So they keep right on doing the very things that have sent their job approval numbers crashing.

I'm starting to wonder if the 2006 fiasco was so bad ...

We first got rid of a LOT of RINOs ... unfortunately some good ones were ousted too. Now we have the idiot moonbats on full parade. for all to see Hopefully we will be rid of most of them in 2008

Any resident of Diyala found smoking in public or even sporting nicotine stains had his or her offending fingers chopped off. Not even Mayor Michael Bloomberg has gone that far.

LOL! I hope Tyrrell didn't speak too soon about Bloomy.

Good column and appropriately titled.

Yep, Goldie, that's the way it is.

If anybody in the good 'ole USA still bothers to vote in '08, maybe this debilitating trend can be reversed.

It's either that, or hunker down. Oh, and buy more ammo.

'08 is just around the corner, we'll know soon enough.

Senator Reid has read the poll numbers that say that most Americans are tired of the war. So he believes that he'll win more Senate seats by opposing the war. That's just how simple it all is for him.

The polls also say that most Americans, while tired of the war, don't want us to lose the war. And the Democrats simply cannot understand why being weak on defense and weak on terrorism (it's just a bumper sticker, don't cha know) keeps eliminating them from the Presidential sweepstakes, as it will do again in 2008.

He is wrong, they are not amusingly oblivious, and no they will not say they predicted victory all along. They will do whatever it takes to bring about American defeat.

When your father (radical Dems) and their father (radical Islams) is the same Devil, your goals are naturally going to be the same.

The Dems can’t decide who their economic guru should be. One day, they are in love with Chavez. The next day it’s Mugabe. The day after it’s Hillery.

As George Wallace once said, “Not two bits worth of difference..”

Hi y'all,

I was thinking the same thing, but apparently she is up for reelection this year for the job that she held when she ran the last time (Washington County Commissioner). They just had the primary a few months ago, and the general election will be in November. Visit www.irey.com for more details.

They will do whatever it takes to bring about American defeat.

Quite true, of course. But they will, with their enablers (media, etc.), blame our defeat on Republicans, all the while hoping they'll fool enough people into believing them. It's all they've got left, and it's just further proof of how demented the Democrat Party and the left in general is today.

They're terrified that folks will figure them out.
