I hear Jiffy Lube Corporation, to their credit, has investigated the fraud...but this ought to be a warning to ALL mechanics out there: don't get caught lying.
But...they’re always so friendly. Like when I was there last time they let me know my coolent was low and offered to top it off for just $20.
Years ago I was working some long hours, and for several years I got too lazy to do my own oil and lubes.
One of these places over-filled the oil by a quart. If I hadn't bothered to check, it could have ruined my engine. And almost all of them missed several grease fittings, which ain't too good for your front end.
Better to do it yourself, if you are able.
we stopped using the quicklube places - the first one became irate when i demanded that they not replace perfectly good antifreezw and air filters.
Then they stopped greasing my ball joints which i replaced myself and discovered the absence of lube.
then we tried jiffy and lo and behold the same crap -
PEOPLE - if you can see light thru the air filter, it is still OK.
In my state you have to bring your car in every two years for emission testing. If your car is more than ten years old, they will try to make you a mark. They put your car on the dyno and open up the hood and check your front-end first. A few minutes later the mechanic will come back to you and say they cannot do the test because of safety concerns. They tell you that the front end control arms need to be replaced. The estimate is usually over three hundred dollars. I tell them to give me back my car and I will take it somewhere else. I also tell them I will never bring my car back here again for any work.(over 15 years I had over 1500 dollars worth of exhaust work done on various vehicles)They knew I was a regular customer. You have to go another garage on the state emission garage list until you find one that will do the testing without a scam. This time it took me 4 different garages before I got them to do a scam free test. The garage that did the testing expressed shock that the 15 year old vehicle passed. I had to pay an extra 16 dollars for a new gas cap.
Another favorite scam at these places is to test your battery and pronounce it “bad” - I had one of those that failed - a year and a half after they tried to tell me it needed replacing.
I use these places for oil changes, but my automatic response when they try to upsell me is “thanks - I’ll replace it myself”.
They paid $240 at Jiffy Lube ?
That right there should be enough to set off alarm bells.
$240???
mark for later
Pull your dipstick before and after an oil change. It should change from near black to medium-honey-brown.
